MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

I'd like to follow up on this for you but before I can do so, I'd need some examples to link to my investigation request. That said, can you please PM me your MWEB account details?

p.s Drifter, I've already got yours. :)

Any progress on this?

As I fully expected, I was able to login with no problems whatsoever between Friday night around 9m until Monday morning around 9am. Since then, absolutely no successful logins (I work from home and tested this extensively today). It's now 6:49pm or so... still no login... but I expect to be able to login successfully whenever the shaping is turned off later tonight.

Hey, was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing +20-30ms across the board with local and international ping? Started with the recent eskom load shedding and a few of my friends who are with Mweb have noticed the latency increase.

Is there something that has been hindered in Cape Town? I miss my 159ms for international gaming :(

Is there something that has been hindered in Cape Town?

If it's widespread, it'll be listed on our Network Status page. Do you see anything impacting your surrounding area over there?

Traceroutes, to both local and international destinations, will also help identify where said high response times are being introduced.

I'll get the ball rolling now with your details only.

Thank you, much appreciated :)

I got to login last night after 11pm, but the ping was very unstable until 11:30 or so. After that, I managed a solid 30min of gaming before old age and the coming morning conspired to make me give up- something very wrong with that scenario.

Still waiting for Drifter to respond with their game and platform, as per my quote below, before escalating to our gaming admin. I'll get the ball rolling now with your details only.

I did reply earlier. I play a totally different game and my game server is in the US, but I see the traffic goes via the UK. My gaming over the weekend was flawless. I will check again this afternoon, but I can almost guarantee that I will battle to log in.

Can we enable monitoring on your account in order for us to track the traffic on your network.

We would like to see if firstly, there is anything else running which may impact on gaming and how the gaming traffic graphs.

Please do let me know the outcome of your testing later this afternoon.

I guess you can do that.

I still think the most logical place to start is actually to ask someone in Mweb who deals with shaping: "are we shaping gaming data?" It would be a very fast "yes or no" response and give you a place to start looking. It is just too coincidental that my login problems (and Drifter's too) correlate with shaping of P2P.

Oh, also something to add which may help - in this game getting to play is a 2 step process: 1) login to your account, 2) load a character to play with. When there is shaping (i.e. no torrents are moving), I cannot get past step 1. When torrents ARE coming down, I frequently cannot do step 2 (loading a character) which is presumably just a data congestion issue. When this happens, I have to negotiate with my wife, who is doing the downloading.... if I can convince her to turn her torrents off, then step 2 works just fine.

Again, this suggests some things about the cause of the problem....

Edit: also please note that today will probably not be a good example of things, as the game is being patched and I will almost certainly be downloading patches instead of actually playing. But, go ahead with the monitoring if it will help.

We can enable enable monitoring for a couple of days to see what your experience is like after the patches has been downloaded.

Perhaps have the downloads for torrents run in the late evening to early mornings when you are not gaming, this would help the testing.

As it turns out, the game was NOT patched today.... and I was actually able to login in now (about 4:20pm or so). If you are monitoring my account, that should give you a nice baseline of when it IS working properly.

Thanks for the update

And now for a comparison.... I went shopping and came back to find myself unable to login again. I've failed to login for or 5 times in the last 10 minutes (6:45pm-6:55pm, roughly). On one of those attempts I deliberately put in an incorrect password, and was informed that my login details were incorrect in under 2 seconds. However, no login attempt succeeded.
