MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

My past two days (1Mbps):

October 14, 2013 - 5367.5 MB
October 13, 2013 - 9363.7 MB

It's been a lot given that I reinstalled windows over the weekend. I am done with my heavy use for the moment.

I guess this does mean that a person is definitely not hit for continuous usage for lets say 48 hours. Definitely based on the 30 day rolling window.

Yeah the 30 day window seems to apply. I've done 206gb this month on my 4mbps connection. I did 331gb last month but I didn't have the photo scans to upload in September.

As tempted as I am to go back to MWeb (with my 200GB projected usage I should *hopefully* not get throttled, but who knows), my main problem is that I will be upgrading to 10mbps within the next month or so, and MWeb's 10mbps uncapped is unaffordable compared to the other ISP's out there. I might end up having to get a 200GB capped package from someone like Afrihost. What worries me the most is that I use my connection mainly for Netflix, and 10mbps = more HD streaming = more bandwidth, which means my "norm" of 200GB is bound to increase.

This is definitely not based on a 30 day rolling period, it's based off of how constant your downloads are. During office hours mine is 0. During night/weekends I did an experiment to see when they'll throttle and it would seem if you constantly download after hours, you'll get slapped with an 80% throttle. Meaning you only get MAYBE 20% of your line speed.

Last month I did about 85gig the entire month on a 1mbps. This month I did 70 gig so far doing the constant download thing (through FTP mind you, not even torrents) and last night they throttled me.

Would be nice to have some sort of clarity on when/what/how these throttles work so that one can avoid it and play within the rules, but since they're not forthcoming with this information, I'd rather go back to Web Africa

Good Day Acid Razor, I can confirm that we are using a 30 day Rolling window. The data is not reset every end of the month.

Throttling is calculated on the last 30days usage and is re-calculated daily.

This is why mwebs threshold keeps increasinf for faster productts also the price though, remember speed inceases will add more strain in realtime and use more in the long run, test their standard 10mb first then go premium if needed, althought it may not be , who knows, still atleast they are able to stream unlike ah

Estimating your daily aveage here, 40gb in 15 days last month, just under 3GB daily, 75 this month, average 5, this is back to 4GB average a day, it could be more or less depending on the last 15 days of last moth (16 actually) but I don't have your daily breakdown so I can't tell 4 sure, but anhow its 120 GB or so nearly half of an unshaped account of 4x the price so I presume you did pretty well

Now if it was an uncapped account he wouldn't have to worry about his usage.

DON'T DRINK THE LEMONADE!!!

You can get an account on another "world class network" for less.

Since when does MWEB no longer give reference numbers for calls logged ?
I asked for a reference number now, and Imraan stated "no reference numbers" - just use the same MWEB email address and they will see what's going on.

Called asking whether they could see any issues with my account / line - as I am getting frequent disconnects
SNR and Synch rates are good

Yes, if I needed a true uncapped account I would be paying 759 for the data or use a 2Mb premium on the 1Mb line as it is cheaper

Afternoon Anthro, please private message me the email address you provided him and I will see if I can pick up the log.

I will provide you the reference number of the call logged.

Hi mweb guy, can you please check if im being throttled? I am getting 0.53mbps download on a 2mb line. It works fine if i use a different ISP, please check, thanks.

Hi GaskooN

I checked the account and it seems that the account has been throttled.
You should be able to see your connection status from My Account.

Can't believe you guys are putting up with this nonsense. Just change ISP's FFS.

@ grouter: It's the first time it's happened to me, can you mention an ISP where it wont throttle me? I do 200+- GB a month (AT MAX)

Openweb and Afrihost won't throttle you - you will however be shaped but you are on all uncapped offerings.
Telkom Internet uncapped will give you decent performance but I am not sure if the throttle at all but they give a bloody good account.

Telkom, Afrihost, off the top of my head. Check the relevant threads.

Literally any other ISP will give you better performance than MWEB, pick any one, it will be better.
