MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Mweb Guy, please can you tell me what kind of speed I, as a non-abuser, should expect on a 1Mbps uncapped line?

I know that the speed I attain is dependent on many things, some within and some without Mweb's ambit, but it would help many of us if we could understand at where to set our expectations.

It would also help to know what kind of volume is acceptable. For instance I like to investigate various software packages and operating systems, which often requires the downloading of 1GB or larger ISO images. I also enjoy watching sport online and will have a cricket match running continuously the whole day. Is this considered acceptable behavior?

And, no, I am not trolling you. I am simply trying to understand what you consider abuse or not so that I can get the package which best fits MY internet usage.

Slow here in JHB too lag is a Fsckup I cannot even complete one game without been owned to shiite. Thanks for nothing Mweb!

Hey Seriously

I checked the account and I can't see any issue at the moment except for the fact that you are not connected.
I also tried to test your line but got no readings, it looks like your router may be turned off.

Please let me know if the issue persist.

Feeling a bit sluggish this morning. Anything up? International updates , 5min+ for 11Meg file on a 4-6Mbps line?

Hi Kosmik,

Has your experience improved?
I know at the moment there is a Telkom issue in Durban and the surrounding areas.
This may be whats causing the problem.

Phoned MWEB yesterday regarding slow internet browsing and constant disconnects. Their solution was to drop my line speed to
3MB from the 4MB I am paying for. Needless to say, there was NO online gaming for any of us in the house last night. So, from bad, to worse.

I am getting really fedup with this cr@p.

Just to add injury to insult, I spent about 3 hours wuth MWEB Tech support trying different settings, and the only way I could get the 4MB speed that I pay for, was if they set my linespeed on their side to 5MB. Same day, trial account on an other ISP gave constant 4MB speeds without any tweaks.

MWEB is rubbish. (of late)

Hi Gerhardva

I know that by dropping the line speed on the line, it sometimes improves the quality of the connection.
This is usually done when distance from the exchange is a problem or the copper quality of the line is not very good.
Has your issue been resolved yet or are you still having a problem.

Just once if like to open an SD youtube video and not wait for it to buffer, on a '4meg premium uncapped' account

Hi Lazy.ME

I checked the account and all seems in order.
Could you please PM me the ADSL number you are connecting from, I see there are 2 numbers linked to your account.
Also let me know if you are still having trouble with the connection.

I am less than a 1km from the exchange, and no, my issue has not been resolved. I have had countless faults logged with Telkom via MWEB, and nothing happens. Telkom comes out, has a look, says all is fina and that they will follow up. Never to be heard of again. I am seriously gatvol now. It's only the last 6-8 months or so. Last the claimed it's an undeground cable that needs to be repaired. They replaced the cable, but the ***** carries on.

Read my last paragraph again!!

Hi bekdik

Depending on what you downloading your speeds can vary.
Anything between 90kbps and 120kbps is acceptable and is also dependent on your line conditions.
If you have not received a letter regarding excessive usage then you current usage patterns falls within the parameters.
I do not know what these parameters are so I can't give you an idea of what it is.

Hi

Could you please drop me a PM with the types of speeds you are getting and advise on which platform you getting these speeds.
Also, with regards to the disconnects, I can see that there have been some today.

Are you able to test with a different router to see if the disconnection persist?
Also, have you tried bypassing the ADSL filter to see if the connection stays up?

Think MWEB is on an extended lunch, he is ignoring my issue as well, or, hopefully ranting and raving in the office to get it sorted.

Hi

I checked your account and it seems fine, I can't see any problems on it.
I checked the line and I saw that it is syncing at 3Mbps and that the attenuation on the line is 59db.
This is higher than the acceptable levels and certainly enough to cause you a degraded service.

I'd advise logging at line fault with Telkom so that they may look into this to see whats causing it.

It has to relate to ISP. I just called in and they re-authed my account, all is fine now.
Need to step up the game MWEB...

I wonder if MWEB hate users like you, because in directly its guys like you that cause users to cancel their accounts and move to the competition. And just one thing, if you pay more than a R1000 for your ISP account ALONE (using a 10MB) you'd EXPECT a TRUE UNCAPPED EXPERIENCE so F u buddy!

Plus whatever happen to MWEB's policy where they said you'd never get capped... EVER? Damn PR BS.. I'm seriously thinking of just jumping ship to openweb. I've been with MWEB for almost 3 years now and never experienced this stuff before..
This will help you understand; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm

Hi, its a brand new router and brand new filters, Telkom tested them. I will do speed tests this afternoon.
