MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Just to inject some positivity into this thread, I'm currently on a 1Mbps trial account and I must say that my ADSL connection has never worked this great before. I can get full speed on my downloads, even international downloads. Web browsing now finally works at a decent speed. Youtube finally plays without buffering for 5 minutes per minute of video. The only negative thing I can say is that it seems that torrents are throttled during day time, but at least they run at full speed during the night.

Previously someone asked how other ISPs can afford not throttling their customers when Mweb can't - well, there isn't a single ISP in South Africa that doesn't throttle their uncapped customers. Some will claim that they don't throttle, but they simply redefine the words to mean something else than they do. With my previous ISP I was throttled 24/7 even though I averaged 40GB per month on a 4Mbps account...
It seems you still haven't figured out what throttling actually is, but hopefully you'll stop trolling the afrihost thread and become mwebs problem.

Oh, I see this thread is full of angry Afrihost marketing people too. Oh well, too bad their trolling is so transparent.

But hey, maybe we can make a deal. If you stay over in the Afrihost thread, I'll stay here. Deal? That way you can moan about random nonsense as much as you want, and I can talk about ADSL ISPs and we're both happy.

Whatever you do don't download more than 3.3 GB a day or you will be sorry. Being throttled by Mweb is the worst throttling in SA, maybe even in the world- I know damn straight about being throttled for almost a week. Internet is obviously useless, can't even do a search with google. Just a warning :)

Did you get the now legendary ''abuse'' notice prior to the throttling?

Good you stay here until you finally figure out the difference between throttling and shaping. Mweb does after all thrive on ignorance.

Am I missing something??

Get away from MWEB as fast as you can ... these guys are not the most honest people in town .....
An MWEB account is like a prostitute, you never what you might get ....:D

That aside MWEB assured us all that they issue said ABUSE letters prior to throttling ... it was in fact part of their ASA argument .... quote ''A hypothetical reasonable person would presumably alter his behaviour when receiving warning letters from a service provider that he / she was abusing the system. These complainants appear to have chosen to ignore these warnings''

You sir, could argue then with the ASA that MWEB are bunch of thieves and liars .... and if their subscribers can live with doing business with such people .... well its a reflection on them.

Mweb Guy, my Internet is lifeless. Think it's a congestion at the exchange (dslam) Telkom problem :(

Can anyone confirm that Telkom are having outages at the moment :( I can't even traceroute or ping. I'm in the Kwazulu Natal area.

All sorted :p

 This is one of the most disturbing things I have ever read on the Internet. What's your company been doing to those who have blindly crossed the mythical limits is purely unethical.

Evening, you do not know the clients usage for the last 30 days.

Why don't you ask him to post his usage statistics here and also note that I have replied to him as well.

Please convince me why the throttling method is the best solution to the problem of ensuring that the top 3% of MWEB's user base doesn't overload its entire network at any time. I believe that it's not very fair to throttle an user as a punishment for having downloaded a lot of games that he bought on Steam. Is it not the point of having an uncapped account??? Some reported that it took at least a week for their accounts to become unthrottled. This is ridiculous!!!

What made Derek think that the shaping method which is used by most of the other ISPS such as Afrihost and Openweb is not effective when comes to preventing big downloaders from bringing the network to its knees? Why are Afrihost and Openweb still using this ineffective shaping method?

There is one main factor, if a specific client abusers the network we can ensure that he/she faces she is affects via speed limitations.

Instead of letting the entire client base suffer with degraded speeds to accommodate the few who abuse the network.

It sounds like a great idea on paper but in reality, it's horrible  I think that the shaping method is the best from the user's perspective because it allows the possibility of downloading +150GB worth of stuff in 30 days without negatively affecting the network because the shaping policy is always disabled during off peak times (At nights/on weekends).
