MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

@MwebGuy: I previously mentioned you should talk to your bosses about the lifting of throttle measured bandwidth after hours and weekends, any feedback? Go on, surprise me with something more than lip service or empty promises of good intention.

What made Derek think that the shaping method which is used by most of the other ISPS such as Afrihost and Openweb is not effective when comes to preventing big downloaders from bringing the network to its knees? Why are Afrihost and Openweb still using this ineffective shaping method?

Derek H is an ex insurance guy. He patently isn't the marketing or IT guru. Even a blind man with a defective dog could see this.

Despite the stories of the abusers and network and all the lies - anyone can see that MWEB clients are peeved ... even if they (MWEB) delete posts from their FB page to pretty up the picture. We can see that throttling is BY FAR less accepted than the blanket shaping - reason being time. Throttling for 2 -3 days that sometimes becomes a week because some phantom limit was exceeded ... come on!!! Who defends that !!! Oh, don't worry, its a rhetorical question.....:wtf:

I'd never really bothered looking up any of his details. I see he's been with MWEB since 1998? Does MWeb have an insurance division?

Although I'm on the internet a lot every day, I've somehow had my head in the sand with this throttling business.

I hadn't checked my usage for ages but I know I download a lot of games and demos off the Playstation store as well as torrents, and I stream a lot of HD video.

So when I read about all this I just went cold. I had this massive, massive feeling of dread. I'm on 4Mb and having now looked at my usage, I tend to do about 100GB per month. Having just finished exams though, I've recently stocked up on holiday entertainment and my 30 day rolling window is at about 170GB (70GB for the last 7 days). So as you can imagine, I was in quite a state and expecting to be throttled any second.

I looked around in my account a bit and noticed I paid more than the quoted 4Mb uncapped price. That's when I realised I'm actually on the 4Mb Premium.

So it would appear that 170GB hasn't gotten me throttled on 4Mb Premium. How close am I to being throttled?

I've quoted my total usage figures. I don't know if it is correct but I read upload isn't factored in? If I look at the past 12 months, my upload is about 25% of total usage and then obviously 75% download.

To my knowledge, I've never received an abuse letter.

I do feel quite blind sided though.

From what users have been reporting the threshold is around 100gb per Mbps. So if you're on 4mbps it's about 400gb. If you reach that threshold you need to download less than 14gb a day in order for it to drop.

My most heaviest month was December after a re-install and that was 690GB. At the end of last month it was at 380 but my average over the last couple months have been lower than that anyway.

Thank you.

So I can stop holding my breathe every time I hit refresh?:D

Would that 100GB per Mbps be the estimated benchmark for standard or premium accounts?

Is international down?

My local is fine:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 6291 kbps (786.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 454 kbps (56.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 48 ms

But my international not good:
Last Result:
Download Speed: 76 kbps (9.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 324 kbps (40.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 224 ms

The problem with the currect throttling approach is that it is inflexible. If I buy a couple of games online, I could easily have a download queue that would exceed the threshold in the 30 day window. But maybe for the previous 30 days and the next 30 days, I download much less than this. Doesn't help me in THIS 30 day window :(

It's very frustratring to have to keep track of GBs on a uncapped account, like we were all doing on our old capped accounts :(

@MWEB Guy: Maybe a larger window period? Instead of 100GB in 30 days, give us 200GB in 60 days. It still sounds like a CAPPED account like this though :(

Still wouldn't you say he's been out of the game long enough after 14 years? Are you still doing what you did 14 years ago?

Cancel your MWEB account and move to a better ISP.

There is one main factor, if a specific client abusers the network we can ensure that he/she faces she is affects via speed limitations.

Instead of letting the entire client base suffer with degraded speeds to accommodate the few who abuse the network.

So, if someone uses more than half of available bandwidth, you call him an abuser? Because you throttled me without any warning (I have received your letter of abuse exactly the week after you started throttling me) just as I crossed half of theoretically-practically possible amount of data that I could download. Not even half! my total usage was about 125GB, and that includes both upload and download, while if I would be downloading at full speed 24/7 the whole month, I could pull 250GB only on downoads. What is the exact definition of abuser in the eyes of MWEB? Please answer to this Mweb Guy?

Are you on 2mbps?

Another quick question: if I send my cancellation form today, and wait 30 days notice period, will mweb only bill me for 7 days in January, or will I have to pay for the whole month (January)?

Morning Fudzy

As you know, all I can do is pass this along the channels. Whether this suggestion is seen as a good idea, we will have to just hang ten a bit more ;)
