MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Hi

i am borrowing a friends 4mb trial account. This is actually of no use to me, as its a premium account, and its 4mb.

I would like to test the 6mb speeds, as well a compare routing on the standard account.

I was called now, to let me know that the "abuse flag" has been removed from my account. Though they could still not tell me what exactly this was for, ie. the amount that I downloaded 3 years ago.

I was also informed that a 6mb standard trial account is not available. So this has been a complete waste of my time then. Why wasnt I just told from the start that a 6MB standard trial account is not available?

To users on this forum,

Is there anyone who has a 6MB standard account? Could you please let me know? I have some questions regarding routing, and if it would at all be possible to test for 1 evening. No heavy downloading, and ofc I will supply you with MY current ISP account details in return so we can both remain up and running.

@MWEB Guy

so that's the end of it then?

Rather disappointing...

I will be following up on our side regarding this. We should have a trial account for the Standard Package, just like the Premium Package. I will be reverting back to you.

I appreciate it. You seem to have a better understanding of things, concerning my technical requirements. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread

Afternoon techead, I have received some feedback.

We do not have any standard trial accounts available.

The routing on the standard and premium packages are exactly the same, the only difference are the thresholds.

how is Mweb internet? I have just cancelled with Afrihost and I am looking for a new ISP.

I have a 10mbps line and need a 10meg acc.

I donload about 200 to 300 gigs of stuff a month and do not want to be shaped or throttled.

Any advice would be appreciated.

On my 1mbps Uncapped acc from Mweb I got 1.2 - 1.3mbps and now on my 2mbps Uncapped acc I get 1.6 - 1.7mbps.

Dont know if it was really worth it to change from 1mbps to 2mbps for the same price and get about 40GB less worth of downloads per month.

@MWeb Guy, Can you please check my connection to see if everything is fine? Thanks

4mbps premium product will do you fine, it is expensive compared to the rest now but it will do what it says on the box.

Good afternoon Piesang, the account and line readings seem fine at the moment.

I am interested but I do NOT want to get throttled at all for my usage, like I said I download MAX 300 gigs a month but that could mostly be in a week or two... Depends on game updates and torrents.

Is there a type of an test account available?

The approximate threshold on our 4MB premium package is 400GB and approximately 950GB on our 10MB premium.

You won't be throttled if you stay within these parameters.

Also note, that we do not include uploads in our thresholds ;)

That sounds great, but what about your normal packages? The 10mbps premium package is a bit more than I was paying and I would ideally not like to incur the extra cost at the moment.

The 10MB standard package has a threshold of approximately 250GB.

Sho, that is roughly my usage per month.

I sign up and I reach that threshold, would I then be throttled? or shaped?

Don't do it. I just moved the opposite way on ISPs. Once you hit the threshold in a rolling 30day period your line is throttled and is then virtually unusable until you are under the threshold.

And shaping is permanently in effect - not just when u are throttled (mweb guy, feel free to correct me.)

Suggest u try another isp, don't think Mweb will be your answer.

Eh? I call BS.

Strange then that I was throttled to death once I reached a combined total of 197.762GB (Rec=132.871, sent=64.891GB0 in August 2013).

And again in Sept 2013 after only a combined total of 117.729GB (Rec=77.014GB and sent=40.715GB)?

This on the 2Mbps Standard package.

When I queried this on your "helpline" I was told to "stop uploading", and yet I was still throttled for a number of days thereafter - in spite of my asking what the "threshold" was and receiving no feedback whatsoever regarding my question.

So I went one better and stopped the service altogether as of 30 September 2013 since it was no longer uncapped and no-one wanted to provide me with any details regarding these "thresholds".

Evidently this "threshold" is but a mere 70GB which was only officially announced by MWebGuy yesterday.

So much for Customer Service!

Wait ... wait ....wait .... You are paying for a service provider to give you a service and they DICTATE how and when you should use it ????

And this is acceptable?????

I would just like to thank mweb for this outstanding performance on my 4Meg premium uncapped account:

Morning Lazy.Me

This shouldn't be happening. I checked the line and account, everything is testing fine. I re-authed the account, power down the router for 5-10 minutes and test again.

When you boot up again, do a speedtest immediately and let me know what the results are.
