I haven't used torrents for ages but needed to download something last week. I'd heard something about uTorrent's cryptocurrency miner inclusion so uninstalled it and used an alternative. Although trackers showed as working, it was completely dead. Wouldn't connect with many peers and absolutely zero upload or download. So I tried a few other clients but same thing. Tried the best seeded torrents I could find for testing purposes. Nothing.
Eventually after resetting my router and PC a bunch of times, it worked. It was late at night though by now so I had to shut down before completion. Tried the following afternoon. Dead.
So I've spent a week researching and trying everything from static IP & port forwarding to resetting TCP/IP and winsock to torrent client advanced support to learning netstat in CMD and monitoring ports.
Although I would always get full speed after about midnight, I never thought the 100% dead speeds during the day were the result of shaping. I've been an MWeb customer for what...15 years? Something like that. I've been on 4Mb Premium Uncapped for a number of years now too. So I know daytime torrent shaping. It's slow. It's not completely dead though. So I was convinced it was a client/ports issue.
Now I'm not so sure. Now I'm starting to think it is actually just shaping.
So in the time I was away from torrenting, has the shaping policy resulted in completely dead upload and download torrenting during the day?
To note: I haven't detected any problems in any other internet usage and my 30 day rolling total is 170GB. I'm allowed 400GB right? So well within.
Any thoughts?
