MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Explain bit more?

oky as it's me and another person on the same line

I mostly play online gaming and download sometimes

he usually downloads big files for his cellphone shop, flash files ect with go up to 1.6gb per file..

daily usage can be anything between 1gb-8gb sometimes..mostly it's 2.8gb daily?

You'll have 110GB to use over a continuous 'rolling' 30 day period. Usage is always calculated on the current day and the 30 days prior.

Usage on 14 April would be based on 14 March - 14 April.

If you downloaded 100GB in a day, it will affect your usage for another 30 days.

If you use roughly 10GB in those 30 days (110GB threshold), you'll likely be throttled until your 30 day usage goes below 110GB.

Telkom Guest Account

Upload Speed: 526 kbps (65.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Looks like a Telkom issue.

Thanks.

Thanks; I've re-auth'd your account. Please switch your router off for 3-5 minutes and test. If issues persist, I'd strongly suggest that you contact the provider who manages your DSL line to recreate your port, because your line speeds are up to spec.

Mweb's website offline?

Mail and Network status won't open....

Hi Hummercellc, we've launched our new MWEB homepage today and identified a slight issue shortly thereafter, so certain users may have trouble loading the new page. Our engineers are investigating.

Hmmm ok so the 4mb test account from mweb doesnt allow full testing like downloading ect..

Which i kinda understand as you'll get people that abuse the account..

But this is not helping me decide :/

I need to see how dow loads are during the day ..night ect

Downloads tend to crawl during the day. They pick up at night. Lately after 23h00.

Hi djbrendan

What downloads specifically are you wanting to test?

Hi djbrendan

What downloads specifically are you wanting to test?

well atm torrent are done at night or weekends,so http downloads mainly ,which could go from 100mb-1gb ,these are done during the day mainly ..

Last time i tested MWEB's test account this was dead and could only test the latency and browsing and youtube

No problems with HTTP downloads here.

Hi djbrendan

The MWEB 7 day trial account will not be limited to any service. It will act just as when fully signed up.

Torrents in general receives the lowest priority on our Network.

I haven't used torrents for ages but needed to download something last week. I'd heard something about uTorrent's cryptocurrency miner inclusion so uninstalled it and used an alternative. Although trackers showed as working, it was completely dead. Wouldn't connect with many peers and absolutely zero upload or download. So I tried a few other clients but same thing. Tried the best seeded torrents I could find for testing purposes. Nothing.

Eventually after resetting my router and PC a bunch of times, it worked. It was late at night though by now so I had to shut down before completion. Tried the following afternoon. Dead.

So I've spent a week researching and trying everything from static IP & port forwarding to resetting TCP/IP and winsock to torrent client advanced support to learning netstat in CMD and monitoring ports.

Although I would always get full speed after about midnight, I never thought the 100% dead speeds during the day were the result of shaping. I've been an MWeb customer for what...15 years? Something like that. I've been on 4Mb Premium Uncapped for a number of years now too. So I know daytime torrent shaping. It's slow. It's not completely dead though. So I was convinced it was a client/ports issue.

Now I'm not so sure. Now I'm starting to think it is actually just shaping.

So in the time I was away from torrenting, has the shaping policy resulted in completely dead upload and download torrenting during the day?

To note: I haven't detected any problems in any other internet usage and my 30 day rolling total is 170GB. I'm allowed 400GB right? So well within.

Any thoughts?

You'll find that as of late, torrents gain momentum after 23h00. This is for everyone.

I'm used to only having good download speed around that time. I'm fine with that. What's changed is that during the day I'm not even able to download or upload a single 1MB file. Day time torrenting used to be maybe 0.5-1Mbps or something like that? I can't quite remember. It was never this complete ceasing though and I also don't remember upload ever being shaped much, although I didn't pay very close attention to upload.

Daytime torrenting came to a halt around 2 weeks ago. You'll find that it chops and changes. What uploading are you referring to? Uploading torrents? Can't really comment, but I have no general uploading problems.

Okay well thanks. At least I can stop monitoring my ports with netstat to .txt files all day trying to find the problem.

Yes torrent upload. It's not that I need to upload per se, it's just that my memory of torrent shaping was only really on download. The fact I have zero download or upload during the day just made it look to me like the issue wasn't shaping.

But it would appear that it is just shaping. I'm not happy about shaping to such an extreme that it's a complete block but I'm pretty tired of trying to fix this thing so at least you put me out of my misery.:p

I was with mweb adsl for a few years (premium uncapped and latter just capped).

I switched to afrihost this month to save money and get more data - BIG mistake.... I have only used them for 16 days...

Afrihost is like a cheap donkey with repeating latency issues (and no actual feedback from support on it).

Mweb is like the BMW of internet access (it just works all the time - no ping performance issues).

If you wanna play FPS, use Mweb.

Someone is wrong on the internet and I don't have the international bandwidth available to let them know!
WHY SEACOM WHY!
