MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

I've made one of the MWEB techs aware of it and the fix, hopefully they pass it on to all their support agents and clients.

Just an FYI though, it does happen with other ISPs.

So interestingly it does not happen on Internet solutions, but it does happen on mweb and Afrihost (to my testing). Interestingly came across this:

https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=461739

Looks like google is testing the protocol "in the wild" and enabling it on certain users chrome, additionally in strict networks like mine this bypasses proxy settings etc.

Hi PostmanPot, which tests have our Technical Specialists asked you to run and share?

None as yet, this was in response to:

MWEB Guy, why are iOS updates so slow?

I began 4 updates about 30 minutes ago (200MB's worth). Usually they would be done in a few minutes.

But this seems to be a regular thing with all the ISPs. It's been ongoing, on and off, for a while now.

Evening, are the speeds similar when connecting with alternate ISP's?

Can't say just as yet, next time I notice it I'll cancel the updates and switch over to another ISP to test, and feedback to you.

Thanks, please do keep us informed

Any issues with routing or capacity in the East Rand?

Browsing websites local and international is extremely slow ( 6-10 seconds to open ) Ping times are fine though 7-10ms to google.co.za

Using my Afrihost account as a backup and everything is quick without any issues, so not a telkom network related issue.

ive got a 10 mb premium line, and it feels like im getting throttled really hard. web pages taking really long to load or timing out before they load, but the weird thing is my downloads speeds are good 800kb/s - 1 mb/s .. just web pages seem to take ages to load, timeout alot .. sometimes it wont load the images on the page

could be a browser problem will try a different browser and see if it makes a difference

Hi PostmanPot

Okay, I see.

Our technical specialist will continue being in contact with you until ref is closed.

Thank you for this, I spoke to him again this morning.

I explained the situation. He's offered a 24 hour trial 10Mbps MWEB account, but I explained that it is not a speed-related issue, and that it is intermittent. He was under the possible impression that the difference in app update speed was because of my MWEB 6Mbps account vs my Telkom 10Mbps account, that my Telkom is faster which is why the apps were downloading faster. This is not the case, it is an MWEB network issue, or shaping (I doubt this).

He said he would still like me to try a 10Mbps trial, because that is what the higher level engineers want. So, when I notice the poor/non existent app download speed, I told him I would PM you for the 10Mbps trial account, so I can test as and when the problem arises.

I can repeat x many times with the same result, low latency 2nd hop then exorbitant from there. What could this be?

MWEB issue, have raised it with them.

Please could you add a location to your profile settings?

Great! Have loadshedding at 8PM so just want to relax with bit of gaming so OF COURSE mweb will have unbearable latency

Why of course? Are you just highlighting the once off coincidence?

It can't always be perfect. Just fire up a spare ADSL account.

I know p2p and torrents get lowest priority, but jeepers, 8bps at 20:30 on the evening is a bit harsh. I downloaded same file over the weekend at full line speed.
