MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback - Part 3

Yep I get the exact same issue. Im on a 4mb uncapped mweb premium account.

All google services are affected, when using Chrome. (google search/ youtube etc etc etc)
The only workaround is to use firefox (which I hate)
Apparently Chrome uses its own weird protocol for communicationss, and it is somehow blocked/shaped by mweb. That was all i could find when doing some searches. Eventually just gave up and went with firefox. This has affected me for months already, not just weeks.

EDIT: Just to add, this is not a computer issue. All computers on my home network are affected by this issue. I have 1pc, 1 media pc and multiple laptops. ALL of them have the same issue with Chrome.

Hi smokemaryjane

We have no reason to block service via chrome. As you mentioned our services are working via Firefox.

EDIT: I checked your account and all is fine.

Where can we see all these products? On the site I can get to the standard packages.
If I go through Google I can somehow get to the Premium packages, but so far I haven't been able to see the Standard Plus packages.

Trying to see the prices for them.

I am currently on the 4mb Premium uncapped and I'm thinking of moving to the 10mb Standard Plus, depending on what it costs.

Hi Qrox

For detailed product info you need to contact our sales team or I can arrange for you to be contacted.

The "Products" TAB on https://www.mweb.co.za/ provides certain packages.

But yet chrome is being shaped incorrectly on google services between 8 and 11pm and facebook videos are also affected. Please get the network team to investigate this.

I will chat to our senior guys about this

QUIC traffic in Chrome

Do you shape or block UDP traffic at all?

Chrome uses a protocol called QUIC (see https://www.chromium.org/quic) to interact with YouTube. This protocol is UDP-based and runs over port 443. Please make sure you do not shape this traffic! It's probably going to be one of the most important protocols of the decade, and is being standardised with the IETF right now. See https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-tsvwg-quic-protocol-02

Chrome gracefully degrades to HTTP/2 over TCP if it can't reach its target server via QUIC (which is why it works better via Firefox, because Firefox doesn't use QUIC). If you shape the UDP traffic though, you'll just create a really bad experience for your customers, because Chrome will favour QUIC traffic over TCP-based traffic.

MWEB is way better off not blocking this UDP traffic on port 443, because it results in less bandwidth consumption and greater performance than going the traditional TCP route.

Hi, we do not block any ports, I will confirm if we shape UDP traffic or not

I noticed on my MWEB adsl chrome doesn't load anything google related (gmail, youtube, google search, etc) but on other browsers it works. I then switch to another browser. isp or have my pc at work and it's all working. Itried reinstalling my browser completely and that doesn't help. Usually late at night around after 9-11 it works fine meaning that something is being throttled. Also my windows updates sometimes goes at 25KB/s only and then mweb has the courage to blame microsoft servers when at work on our neotel fibre 5mb/5mb same time it goes at full speed. So MWEB please check network and provide proof that everything is fine and not being blocked. Sorry to say but I don't trust MWEB when they just say somthing is right. If it is there must be somehow to provide us with proof and failing to do so you have something to hide. And it's not my ADSL line as when I game I have no packet loss or high pings.

Hi skinndeep

We have received confirmation @AlwaysON has been decommissioned in some areas and others to follow.

MWEB WiFi members will only be able to access their free WiFi via: @VAST SSID’s & @MWEB FON (for Fon Members Only)

Customers who have previously logged into AlwaysOn hotspots to access MWEB WiFi, now need to select “@VAST” instead of AlwaysOn

Okay thanks. And if VAST isn't available? Tough takkie?

Hey there MWEBHelp! No, unfortunately the connection has not improved at all. International is extremely sluggish. :(

Drop me a PM with your username, I'd like to check the account.
