..... when I started playing DDO, my ping was 330, when the Durban link came online, I had an average of 270. Now, since yesterday, it's been sitting at 350-420.

.... Yep, same server since I started.

HI

We do monitor latency fluctuations, on our network everything seems fine. If we do pick up any issues we will investigate as a matter of urgency. From the results of your trace routes it fall within acceptable margins.
Keep an eye on it and let me know if stays where it is over an extended period of time.

Oh well, if it's within acceptable margins then there's nothing more I can say about it. I had just gotten used to the new Durban link providing me with lower ping is all. If it's standard to now be high again

Hi Mwebguy

Ok i done speed tests on the other 2 computers they each get in the range of 25-60 ping thats perfect.

I do it on my pc and I get 500+

And its the Jhb Mweb server.

Could the cable be damage, unfortunately i don't have a long enough cable to test that theory.

Hi Shuyin

That is a bit tricky to answer. I suspect that it is something on that particular PC. There could be something running in the background that could be using band width.

Guess ill have to move the pc if it still does it with a new cable then its Maybe network settings. i looked at Network usages its running 0% usage so there is no processes running in the background using it.

Im using Bit Defender 2011 Total Security.

All suddenly gone slow for me now. Youtube is barely streaming AT ALL and browsing is sluggish...

Hi MWEB Guy,

I upgraded from 1Mb uncapped to 4Mb uncapped over a week ago. The first two days or so it worked perfectly but since then it's been working on and off.

The "ADSL" light on my router flashes very, very quickly. It will do this for a while and then change to a slower frequency of flashing (like when the router has been reset) and then it will return to the higher frequency flashing. This process repeats itself. At times the light will be solid but ironically when this happens, the internet is not working at all. The only time it does work is when the light is flashing very, very quickly.

Torrents seem to work more often than web browsing ie. there will be times when torrents will work but web browsing wont work but never vice-verse. It seems to follow this pattern:

1) No internet.
2) Internet works again. Both torrents and web browsing are perfect.
3) After 10 minutes or so, torrents will continue to work but web browsing won't.
4) After a random amount of time, nothing works.
5) Repeat.

What sometimes seems to occur at step 3 is I can't visit new sites but I can visit new, different pages on sites I'm currently on.

So for example If I come onto MyBB during step 2, then when I hit step 3 I'll still be able to go in and out of different threads on MyBB but I won't be able to visit any other different sites.

This isn't always the case though. It will reach a point where no web browsing works at all (yet torrents do) and then finally no internet at all.

I've tried the Telkom guest account as well as a Web Africa account and they both worked. The ADSL light was solid for both. I only get that very, very fast ADSL light flashing on the Mweb account.

I reported the problem with Mweb on Friday morning and have a reference number should you need it. Should I rather pm that?

Telkom have done numerous checks during that time (without finding any issue) but whenever I speak to an Mweb person, I'm more or less told they're waiting for Telkom. I'm frustrated that in a week I can't find out with whom the problem lies and I don't know who is doing what about it.

The Telkom guy that came to the house was fairly certain it was an Mweb issue.

I never have network ping issues but another thing I've noticed is that when the internet is down, I get brilliant ping speeds to my router and two access points. However when the internet is working (and the ADSL light is flashing like mad) the ping has huge fluctuations.

I'm certain this isn't to do with the home network because the internet problems exist for all computers/phones/consoles in the house, even if I stand next to the router and access point with the laptop.

Any help, even just a status update will be greatly appreciated.:)

To add, I did a speedtest yesterday during step 2 (when browsing was working) and it was normal speed and ping. Roughly the same as the speedtest I did with the Web Africa account.

Hi Dames,

There is no reported issues in the area. The line readings are fine as well. Please advise if you are still getting slow speeds?

Speeds are fine now, but for whatever reason Youtube is still not streaming properly. It'll stream about 1/4 of the videos and then it just stops...

Tested a new cable still the same thing other pc's in the house getting good pings and streaming is fine. I have no idea what could be wrong.

Should i reset the router ?

Hi bbabraham,

Please can you PM me the reference number you made mention of in order for me to follow up on this from our side.

Hi dasco144
Has your experience improved ?

Regards
MWEB Guy

Streaming is better and browsing as well. but league of Legends my ping is higher than usual. It is about 260-300 when for about the past month i Have been getting 200-220. The pings only went higher when the Durban IPC outage occurred though.

Being getting excellent results from you guys, no line drop or nothing. Thanks again!

Hi Shuyin,

I would advise only resetting the router if you have the username and password at hand.

Same issue, only since the outage has it been up.
