Haven't really tried other sites, although ive never had a positive experience with vimeo...

BTW, what exactly is involved in the process of refreshing the account? what exactly does it do?
and recreating the port?

The refreshing of the account and ports, just refreshes your connection. Sometimes it helps, I have noticed that your line readings are border line though. If you see the below information, it would illustrait that you would have a poor experience from time to time.

ATUR SNR 6 dB The signal level compared to the noise level. A value above 6 dB indicates sufficient signal strength. The higher the signal value, the better. Does the customer have an electric fence? This could cause an increased in noise levels resulting in a reduction of this value.
ATUR Attenuation 55 dB Attenuation refers to resistance. If this value is high, then signal quality is low, and vice versa. Is the customer far away from the exchange? Long copper lines could be the cause of attenuation. A value above 55 dB is of concern (bad).

Hi Bryn26

We are not experiencing any outages in your area. Send me your MWEB details so that I can investigate.

Telkom came over and did some major rewiring. Turns out a cable was cut or broken or something. Thanks anyway.

Odd behaviour

During the day my connection is off and at about 4:00pm I start a sftp transfer from a co-lo server located in France pulling about 2GB.

Since about two weeks I notice that it starts to crawl at 20K/s coming from 282K/s after 7:00pm.

When I switch to my WebAfrica account it starts flying again.

What gives ???.

Slow dl speeds on Mweb

I recently (this month) signed for Mweb 4Mb Uncapped. I have been with Telkom on a 4/10Mb connection for a while now (capped), so decided to take the plunge. Generally the speeds are good, but quite often when I am downloading from a local News Server, the speeds are terrible - 29 to 35 Kbps. It seems that if it's a fairly large file (anything over 1Gb), it runs at the slow speeds. Anything around 500Mb runs at full speed - 400 to 460 Kbps. Is Mweb shaping port 119 to restrict bigger downloads? If that is the case, I won't be with them for long. I specifically asked them about this before I changed over - obviously the answer was no, that they do not shape... If I am paying for uncapped, then I expect uncapped! Anybody else experiencing anything like this?

thats normal, content is not cached for over 1gb etc,so you are download uncached content, ,only smaller things is cached, get premium news server rather

I understand what you are saying, but but why did I never have that problem when I was with Telkom? I used to get full speed (around 600Kbps - 6Mb line) regardless of the size of the file. It would run happily (until I reached my cap). I was downloading from the exact same News Server as I am now with Mweb, so that doesn't add up.

Hi Slash69

Send me your MWEb account details.
If you are on a Shaped uncapped account, we do employ shaping on certain protocols and this would be why you see slower download speeds durig day time hours.

The reason you were experiencing better speeds on the Telkom account is because that account is a capped account.
You should not be comparing a capped with an uncapped account as shaping rules on a capped account is different to that on a uncapped account.

saix caching works same for most file sizes, mweb bigger files is not cached, diffrent news servers.

So thank you kindly.

Hi MDE

Send me your contact number and I will arrange for a sales consultant to contact you about a 7 day trial package.

Hi there,

Thanks the 7 Day trial would be great but...have only ordered the Telkom line today and have not activated the ADSL side of things either. Was probably going to go for the all inclusive deal of 349 a month.

Gonna ask a stupid question..

Whats happened to the "Myaccount" section of the website?... Everytime I click on it I get redirected to http://www.mweb.co.za/productspricing/InternetAccess.aspx

Hi B.O.F.H,

There is no such thing as a stupid question ;-)

Have you tried clearing your browser temporary internet files & cookies?

Have you tried with a different browser?

Have you tested on a different PC?

Have you? ;-)
