Also on 7 day trial 1mb - news server is not as expected..most of my NZBs dont download though mweb news server. Is NNTP lowest priority? At this point (day5 of 7) it would be the only thing stopping me from signing up.. very happy with everything else so far..

Also on 1mb. News server performance very worrysome. Would also prevent me from signing up.

Hi Guys,

I'm not sure what the shaping policy is like on our trial accounts, so I cannot comment on that.
However I do need to mention that we do not trottle any of our accounts but we do having shaping policies in place.
Also, in general, protocols such as NNTP and P2P are given a lower priority on our network.
However it should perform better after after hours and over weekends.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Hi mweb guy

We have spoken before about moving over to mweb. Got my telkom issues sorted out so im ready to move to a 4mb line and a different isp. I get the textbook definitions when it comes to shaping and throttling but how does it work in reality? Does mweb shape to the point where having a 4mb line is pointless? I get that NNTP and P2P are given a lower priority during business hours but I work a 8-10 hour day, so it really wouldn’t affect me between 8am-5pm. I was thinking about requesting a trial account but that kind of defeats the purpose. You can shape the trail account to meet your needs interms making the sale but the account that I sign up for may be nothing like the trail. Im going to be honest, nzb's are all im after. I want speed and quality, not quantity. I can do less that 100gb per month but i want the freedom of uncapped. Can mweb handle that?

Hi Chaos247, We have lots of users that are happy with our 4Mb product. I can tell you that our trial accounts work exactly the same way. I would suggest making use of our 7 day trial and decide for yourself.
If you would like me to arrange a consultant to contact you then please send me your contact number.

Thanks for the reply. I just wanted some clarity before i pm you my details.

Im on a 1mb line at the moment, im looking for a 4mb line. Will your trial account allow those speeds or is that determined by my current line speed?

It will be determined by your current line speed.

No way for me to test your 4mb line's stability then.

How long will it take for you to move me to a 4mb line if i sign up with you?

It depends on the backlog that Telkom has but it usually takes up to 21 days.

Thanks. Just checking my understanding. I take up your 4mb offer from the 1 March, I'll run off my existing 1mb until for +-23 March? (public holiday on the 21st) Will I still be paying the 4mb price for those +-23 days?

Thanks again.

If you take our 4Mb product even if your line is 1Mb you will still be paying for the 4Mb account. I would suggest that you rather sign up for a 1Mb product with us and then when your 4Mb line is ready then upgrade the account to 4Mb

I spoke to one of your sales agents, I was advised that once I completed the migration form, that my line would be moved within 10 days. Just thought you should know. It’s a far cry from the 21 days you advised.

Thank you for getting back to me, the 21 days is the turn around time given to us by Telkom. It can happen sooner than that I said 21 days as I did not want to give you any false information.

Just thought that i'd put is out there for that exact reason. I've seen posts in a thread that seemingly contradict each other about the same isp. Trying to find a suitable isp is proving to be a real hit and miss exercise.

Thats why im posting in this thread. so far its been very positve feedback from everyone but also, i need to consider when things go wrong. Theres plenty of posts about that. Im about to spend 1k a month on a service that is going to be active, mostly when im asleep. Its a lot of money to be throwing to the wind, might as well do some research.
