MWEB Uncapped ADSL Feedback

For Will@MwebGames:

When I use my Afrihost Account, I can download Steam Games at full line speed - the IP Address Steam is connecting to is "196.38.180.3" (local), this is with download region set to "Johannesburg" - however, with Mweb, I get around 25kb/s - 30kb/s and the IP is connecting to "212.187.192.158" (international), this is with both download region set to "Johannesburg" as well as "Johannesburg (MWEB)"

Not only does this mean downloading Steam Games can be painfully slow, but you guys are also wasting money on International Bandwidth when the content (in this example, Sniper Elite V2) is hosted locally. Please can you guys look into this - with the content hosted locally as well as peering going on between the ISP's now, there's no reason we should be forced to download the shaped, international content when the content exists locally at full line speed.

Hi Mweb Guy

Seems something's wrong with the Mweb DNS this morning... everything just bombs out.
Set my router to use Google DNS and browsing works now.

MWEB Guy

It has been 12 hours now. Any response yet regarding the degraded speeds?

It is not the support I'm used to from mweb. Very disappointed in mweb atm.

I have 1 meg uncapped.
Have had 105 kbs 24/24 dowloading from Astraweb since joining about 2 weeks ago.
Yesterday I was getting 60-80 kbs (I'm not complaining. Far better that another ISP I was with)
Astraweb coming in at 105 kbs again this AM, so seems it was just a minor hickup!
Thanks MWeb!

Torrent speed was better some time earlier this morning but now its back to 20-25kbs and is slowly getting slower again.

Hi tp3to and Qrox

Please confirm if it is only torrents that is slow on your end? How is the general experience, browsing, etc?

Hi Mweb Guy,

thanks for the assistance last night!

Please can you confirm if Mweb now limits the upload speed to the account maximum? I remember previously, Mweb did not limit upload speed on any accounts.

Thank you

Hi Spyk3r

You can see the upload speeds on the table on our website but bear in mind there are outside factors that influence the speed of the line.

My browsing was also not so good last night. Didn't have time to check browsing this morning, but torrents were still messed up.

Signed up for a 1Mb uncapped account because of the good price.

Immediately saw the difference in performance, my webafrica pings were all 50ms while the Mweb account done between 10 - 15ms to the same server in Cape Town.

Looks like I'll be leaving WebAfrica in the coming month only thing I will miss is their news server but I can make do without it.

I am now an Mweb man, thanks for the great product guys

Welcome!

Im enjoying Telkom's 1meg uncapped, especially for the constantly close to full line speed on torrents and very little throttling and want to switch to Mweb because im moving house and have never tried them before.

Im a die hard torrent user and have never disliked or wanted to change from using torrents, so a news server is not an option and i do not want to pay for another service to download.

Please tell me honestly how good is Mweb for torrents?

I pay Telkom R658 per month and i see MWEB at a respectable yet shaped R488.

Just got home. Torrent speeds 2.5kbs

EDIT: Full speed download on filehost sites.

Anybody else experiencing very slow to non-existent youtube speeds? For the past few days I've been unable to watch youtube videos at all during the day. Dailymotion seems to work but not Youtube - Mweb guy any ideas?

Would just like to say thanks to mweb. My net was having huge issues and through their great customer service the problem (Which turned to be with Telkom breaking my connection at the exchange) was sorted out quickly. Thanks Mweb :)

Torrents are dead now. Getting 0-1kb/s. Occasionally jumping to 12-15kb/s and then dropping back to 1. Other downloads sit around 80kbs.
No problems on the exchange as far as I can tell.

EDIT: Steam also isn't connecting to the internet.
