Anybody else experiencing very slow to non-existent youtube speeds? For the past few days I've been unable to watch youtube videos at all during the day. Dailymotion seems to work but not Youtube - Mweb guy any ideas?

Hi fishzn

I'll look into it and provide feedback, once done.

Is it only 360p, HD or Youtube in general?

Hi MG

Well I've only been using 360p - I'm on a 384k line. The site itself loads fine, even the video frame etc but it stays stuck buffering at 0:00 until I refresh - even then its hit or miss. It seems to be only during the day though -once we go past 5 it seems to work - but still intermittent.

Hi MwebGuy

My streams on TwitchTV arnt loading at all. Is there a new problem with streaming?

EDIT: I can only get them to load on 240p

For Will@MwebGames:

When I use my Afrihost Account, I can download Steam Games at full line speed - the IP Address Steam is connecting to is "196.38.180.3" (local), this is with download region set to "Johannesburg" - however, with Mweb, I get around 25kb/s - 30kb/s and the IP is connecting to "212.187.192.158" (international), this is with both download region set to "Johannesburg" as well as "Johannesburg (MWEB)"

Not only does this mean downloading Steam Games can be painfully slow, but you guys are also wasting money on International Bandwidth when the content (in this example, Sniper Elite V2) is hosted locally. Please can you guys look into this - with the content hosted locally as well as peering going on between the ISP's now, there's no reason we should be forced to download the shaped, international content when the content exists locally at full line speed.

Hi XperiAnce. Sorry for not getting back to you earlier in the day. I'm not sure why the content would not have been deployed to our caches yet if it already exists on another local node. I know that the content is pushed to those servers overnight by Valve so it's possible that there was some issue with the synchronization. I have raised this with the Gamezone team and asked them to do a health check and run it past Valve to see what can be done to ensure the servers are kept in sync.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Regards
Will

Hi Will.

Thanks for the feedback - it's strange though that, should Steam not find the content on an Mweb Cache, it doesn't try another local cache (of which one exists and contains the content) - instead, it simply goes "Oh well, let's get it from the States"

Annoyingly, I switch over to my Afrihost and hey, what do you know, Steam resumes my download by connecting to "209.197.10.86" (International). Silly.

Anyone else having issues with downloading from Astraweb and/or Newsdemon?

Downloads died last night somewhere and still isn't going anywhere on the MWEB 4Mb account, but is working on a 1MB Telkom account

Test using another DNS server? I had some random DNS issues on Mweb today.

Hi Bar_Rat

We have no streaming issues reported on our network.

Take MWEB but remember don't expect to get good d'load speeds during the day - at night full speeds

I am definitely not getting full 1MB speeds. More like 10-20kb/s during the day and at night, for torrents specifically.

I'm thinking about upgrading to 1mb tomorrow, but all I keep reading is that the torrent speeds are still relatively slow?? I personally don't use torrents, but news servers instead, my Dad's the one using torrents.

So can anyone of you 1mb line guys tell me what torrent speeds you get?

I am on the 1MB uncapped and I am averaging between 20-30kb/s for torrent downloads. PTA region.

Ohk I'm in the Western Cape, but thats pretty OK speeds for my Dad, he's very patient. Because at the moment I'm juggling between NZB's and torrents on a 384 line. :( Ya I know!

Do you only use torrents for downloading btw?

Yes, torrents only.

I use the Mweb news server for my fetishes and any recent stuff flies for me. Older content I grab via xsusenet. I get fullspeed any time I let it go.

Ja I also use the Mweb news server, I only download current stuff though, so that flies on my existing 384 line. So know things will get done much quicker!! :) I think I'll xsusenet a try though. Thanx!
