telkom gave the price changes
so hopefully mweb will tell there prices soon
cant wait

i want 2mbps!!!!!!!!

if mweb dont let us pay more for 2mbps data (free)
it will be awesome but if they do i hope it less than R50 :)

On this abuse topic... The wife queued a few torrents, basically just a bunch of Series episodes and one or two movies.
I can't seem to find any clear idea or answer on downloading times. I know torrents are probably given the lowest priority, but anyway...
When is the safest time to download without getting into trouble?

Lets assume we download every night, what times will be "safe"?

a) 17:00-06:00
b) 19:00-06:00
c) 22:00-06:00
d) 00:00-06:00

Daytime the account will only be used for basic browsing, emails maybe streaming one or two Youtube vids.

Edit: Currently 384kbps line and 1mbps uncapped line.

if u want movies
do this

1. download idm (internet download manager)
2.install it and get it running

3. go to http://www.movie2k.to/index.php
4.open the movie/tv series u want

5.putlucker's links are the best (in my view)

6.open the link u want,u will see a pic,click on it,it will open a new tab

7 if it on putlocker,w8 3sec and click "contunue and free user" click it

8.u will see "download this video" in blue on the bottom or top of your screen (its idm's downloader)

click on it and it will download

full speed 24/7

or u can stream it online

Ok cool... maybe I should rather ask it like this. What is the maximum allowed bandwidth to be used per day on a 384line/1mbps uncapped line. Obviously the 10:00-06:00 timeslot should be best as there won't be much shaping.

oh that :)

hmmm from about 10:00-11:00pm the torrents run full speed till about 11am

i seen torrent running weekdays at 11am and still doing 90kb/s+

so if u dl from 10pm-6am thats 12h

and if u avg at 80kb/s (1mbps)

so its 0.080 x 60 = 4.8 per min
4.8 x 60 = 288mb per hour
288 x 12 = 3456mb

so u can do about 3.4gb in 12houre avg at around 80kb/s

I let torrents run all the time, for the most part. If I ever get an abuse letter I'll tell MWEB to take a flying leap. :D

It's their responsibility to shape the torrents, and they do a damn fine job of it, as far as I am concerned.

I suspect this is going to be seen as bypassing the shaping.

In my opinion, torrents are just fine - I don't foresee trouble with abuse, as MWEB seem to have their shaping protocols sorted for torrent traffic, and as things stand, it's possible to get enough gigs per 24 hour period to keep a person happily entertained (on a 1Mbps)...

My torrents run all day everyday and I've pulled 145gig in the last 31days according to uTorrent on a 1meg line, I just let Mweb do the shaping so I wouldn't panic about it. They just seem to get shirty when you're doing massive http downloads constantly or bypass their shaping somehow. An extremely happy chappy on Mweb at the moment everything's flying....

Awesome man, thx for the peace of mind! Seems there's loads of happy MWEB chappies...well the service I got this far from MWEB guy and the rest of the MWEB team was superb, lets hope they sort out alternative billing and then I'll be as happy as a pig in ....

Why are you guys so worried about abusing what you pay for??

Like copacetic said..

I've done 185GB so far this month on my 1mb line. (Not torrents of course)

But 384 and 1mb guys are kinda "save" I think. I hope.

185gb wow thats about 6gb a aday,and not torrnets?

that lots of pr0n!

just joking

we pay for it...so i dont see a prob by using alot of gigs :/

I've seen warnings get handed out to < 4Mb, so that kind of invalidates it.

LOL thats what i thought until i got 1 abuse email which they said was the third and terminated my account after 24 hours, becuase of the fact that they cant lock "ones" account to their data package  (We had a 4Mb uncapped, but a 6mb sync speed= downloading at 550-600 KBPS) so i cannot go back to them

We take regular flying leaps to keep us fit copacetic, but thanks all the same for the solid advice :D

Gent's unfortunately rules is rules and while we do take measures to control p2p traffic, ultimately the responsibility is on you, the customer, to behave like a good citizen and comply with the acceptable usage policy that you agreed to when you signed up for the product.

jarrydred according to my records there's a bit more to what transpired here than just 1 warning sent - if you'd like I'd be happy to discuss it with you telephonically so I can get a full understanding of why you are unhappy with the process that was followed.

Kind Regards
Will

Quick question, is MWEB not affected by the current SAT3 outage? If not can Will/MwebGuy pm me regarding one of your capped solutions?
