MWEB Uncapped ADSL - Official Q & A

One quick question:

Rapidshare Premium or Astraweb 180gb (especially in terms of speed)?

384k Mweb Uncapped

Are you asking about Astraweb speeds or Astrweb on MWEB speeds?

I'm doing a download right now off Astraweb 180GB and it's maxed at 42KB/s but I'm with a different ISP.

I see a pattern here.... the last few nights from about 8ish up to about 10:30ish downloading kinda flies along and then all of a sudden from about 11ish ...everythng slows down again...

Like I said previously, i also used a Cisco ADSL router and my results have been the same too. not sure if it counts for anything.

@MWEB - dont u make use of any Peering links? CINX / JINX? won't it sort out any congestion and/or latency issues?

hmm 11 o clock is when my downloads dropped to about 300kB/s

Just wanted some info cos Ive dropped to an average 17.9kB/s on a well seeded torrent so anything that gets me over 30kB/s is more worth my while. Thanks.

Avg speed here: 189KB/sec today. (actually much higher but connection idling since about 19:00)
Max speed: 511KB/sec.
Done 50GB so far this month but my usage patterns are much lower on weekdays (and evenings).

I'm happy with MWEB. For R995 I would get iBurst 15GB and dial up redundancy. Now I can get speeds 4x and no cap so no worries about letting connection be ON most of the time and have a few bucks to spare.

I have to say, all things considered, so far im impressed, MWEB might have a habit of acting like the ISP version of the mafia historically but so far everything has been satisfactorily fair and open. As for downloading, over the weekend speed has been wonderfull, if this pattern continues into the future I'll be as happy as a frog in a pond.

Hi Rodent-Boy,

As mentioned in the above post there could be many local factors influencing your upload speeds. But of most importance will be the target server itself, its performance and the performance of all the intermediate links between you and it. If you can provide an IP/dns name I can take a look.

PS: What are your ADSL line & MWEB package speeds?

MWB.

I'll monitor it for a few weeks and let you know if there's a major problem. I just wondered if FTP traffic was somehow heavily shaped. My speeds are fantastic. Very happy so far, thank you. :)

I've experienced slow download speed (8Kb/s) from an international FTP server which had nothing to do with MWeb. When I downloaded from the same server from a non-MWeb location, the speed was still 8KB/s, so it was obviously being throttled / shaped at the source.

That wasn't my problem because immediately after the hour-long ordeal with the 12MB file I tested it uploading another file (10MB) on my 3G connection and it was up in a few minutes. I'll try uploading something again later today and see if I have the same problem with Mweb. Signed in at home now, and was at work last week, so I'll see if the location makes any difference at all.

I have my ADSL Line with another ISP:
- What is required to move my line to MWEB? (Do MyBB forumites suggest separating the two?)
- How long does the switch over take?
- Is there a break in service when switching over?
- Can a switch over _AND_ linespeed upgrade be performed?

Thanks
Thanks

Mweb Rep.

May I ask why is the upload speed for 4096k Uncapped limited to 384k or 40kbs?? All 4096k lines have upload speeds of 512k or 53kbs. It seems that Mweb is limiting the upload speed to 384k and I don't know why.

@Tjoker, as hard as this may be for you understand some people actually use uploading on their accounts. So in answer to your question, a good many people care about upload. ;)
