all the hotfile/rapidshare sites have been slow today - they were fine yesterday.

Understatement of the year! As we speak my Rapidshare is zipping along at a phenomenal 3.2Kb/2.....

Just a question, might be a dumb one and all, but here goes. How can you know what the speeds on M-Web Uncapped Home ADSL is at the moment if you are not at home?
I mean, technically you should be at work where you may or may not have the uncapped BUSINESS ADSL package ?

Not just Rapidshare Hotfile etc. I have web hosting in the US were I upload stuff for my website. Small video files of about 15MB. Upload speed is fine but when I test download the files I am getting only 8KB on a 4MB line. I usually get full speed from this server 420KB so either they are shaping everything now during business hours or there are something very wrong.

Just noticed someone complain about slow speeds on Openweb uncapped too, so this is most certainly another SEACOM problem.

"Rouxenator" I am self employed and do graphics & animation work from home, I don't think this qualifies as a business as I am only one person using it and have not used 10% of the potential downloads one can make in a month for the past two months.

For me its about budget and know that I will stay online.

I work from home... My exchange is not busy as everyone's at the office... I download at about 360kb/s the whole day...

The bottom line is this :

1) If you used a shaped home account, you will get shaped traffic in business hours
2) On any shaped account, if you use mass download sources (P2P, torrents, hotfile, rapidshare, news hosts, usenet) they will get shaped first if the network need capacity elsewhere.

So basically, you are the guy that stands at the back of the line. You are free to use as much of whatever makes it to you after higher ranking (and paying) customers are serviced. For the money it makes sense now doesn't it ?

My downloads from my AeroVPS are all of a sudden slow slow slow... about 40Kb/s

I've downloaded about 150 gigs from my server in the last 2 weeks.

Is it possible for MWEB to shape the connection?

waiting for a response on a pm from MWEB rep and email to billing dept. for the past 2 days now... getting rather irritated...

On their network status page it stated that International and E-Mail may be slow in all areas. As quickly as they put it up, they removed it again. Fishy.

Well at this point anything is better than MWEB's expensive "Uncapped" that you cannot use most of the time - they should stick to dial-up, idiots!
