You still have an 18ms in there though. This internet thing is very strange indeed. Although, pings averaging < 50ms should be acceptable for gaming right?

Is the improved performance/pings because ... everyone is away from the computer and watching "the soccer"?
</cynic>

I hope not! :)[/-]

Edit: Scratch that. I was out by an hour. The soccer's only *starting* now. Therefore, the improved performance is *real* :)

well i can honestly say my net is screwed again, internet keeps dropping and now getting between nothing and 10kbps on a 4 meg line, but i have noticed mweb are selective here to who they reply to, i want a consistent line not the crap this month, today is the 14th,i've had at most 5 good days, not good enough, couldnt even skype yesterday cos the line kept dropping, mweb blamed telkom who came and found nothing wrong, phoned mweb again and a different guy told that the line was dropping over mweb and i would get a text when the problem was fixed, still no text

What do you mean when you say "internet" and "the line" keep dropping? Does the actual ADSL lose sync? If so, that's a Telkom issue, not an MWeb issue. Is the line noisy? Is there a telephone or fax machine sharing the line?

If a website times out, that's a different issue, most probably a problem with the site in question.

the line is sharing with a normal phone, there was no issues for the first month, rapidshare not even making 1kbps at certain time,i will test and plug out the phone and see what i pull tonight, i thought the problem was telkom but the mweb guy on the phone said it was mweb and they were working on it

AFAIK a noisy phone or fax could affect ADSL performance. Check the SNR values reported by your router. Telkom is responsible for the actual physical cable into your home/office, as well as for the exchange. MWeb is responsible for routing the traffic from the exchange to them (over Telkom lines though) and onwards, AFAIK.

how do you check an snr value, if this is the case, it is even more frustrating that an mweb guy told me otherwise

ok found it

Upstream 507 kbps
Downstream 4006 kbps
SNR Margin (Upstream) 13.3 db
SNR Margin (Downstream) 6.4 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 36.9 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 59.0 db

is these values good or bad

Upstream 507 kbps
Downstream 3939 kbps
SNR Margin (Upstream) 13.7 db
SNR Margin (Downstream) 6.4 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 36.9 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 59.0 db

just did it again, is there anyway of solving this without telkom

I don't know, but I doubt it. It's certainly not MWeb's issue per se. However, if you have an all-inclusive bundle with MWeb, they will contact Telkom on your behalf to investigate the line.

ok i have messed around with the router, looking better so far, just hope it doesnt drop

these are the readings now, thinking it could have been my problem, if it is i apologise to mweb

Upstream 507 kbps
Downstream 4077 kbps
SNR Margin (Upstream) 11.5 db
SNR Margin (Downstream) 6.2 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 36.9 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 59.0 db

having no issues here whatsoever, your line sync values are inconsistant, Somewhere your line is a mess.
