Mweb's news server is broken! Part of the upgrades?

I haven't been able to connect to MWEB's news server (Socket Error 10060, Connection timed out) since I changed my logon from @dslmweb to just @mweb, yesterday. I was thinking that maybe there's something I need to change on my news server login/settings -really don't know, anyone? Or is this just another MWEB %@*~>-up? Really @*$~-ing me off now...

My connection has gone complete belly up this morning. Keep on getting time-outs and "Page not found" errors, pages are taking AGES to load.

I agree with Ssung, this is really @*$~-ing me off now...

Hi Guys

We have IPC nodes in CT and JHB now and we’re moving customers back from the SAIX wholesale network onto our own IPC network. We’re busy load-balancing the CT and JHB IPC nodes at the moment. It’s a case of fine-tuning / tweaking the configuration and it’s likely to take us until the end of this week to get it right. Early next week we’ll be getting another 1.2Gbps of international bandwidth which should allow more bandwidth for filesharing services.

Kind Regards
MWEB Operations

My question is this: why the heck weren't we notified that this stuff was going to happen BEFORE YOU STARTED, guys? Instead we are left ala mushroom to get frustrated with WAY sub-par service and horrid connection speeds.

You cannot expect your customers to put up with degraded service like this for days on end while you're tweaking your system. It's not on...

Really, it's great news that we'll be getting more bandwidth, but at least TELL us about it before you go moggy and we have to sit with horrendous speeds for days on end.

It's just good ol' DECENT customer service. Easy as that.

Whoa! That's really cool :D

No doubt these upgrades are going to be welcomed, I'm pretty happy they're happening. But really, I think the people here are MyBB have been pretty clear since this products inception that an informed customer is happy customer. You manage to send system e-mails about how you're changing e-mail security that would affect less than 1% of your customers, but something like this that affects almost everyone you keep mum. Its not acceptable. Let this be a lesson.

And in other news, September was a very productive month.

I really hope you meant to say "will definitely allow more bandwidth for filesharing services." :p

Hi TheYak

This upgrade has no negative impact on the customers, the will improve on your current speeds and performance. We are constantly working on improving our network and if we do any planned maintenance that will impact negatively on our customers it is communicated beforehand via email and the help centre

Here's a mrtg graph of my traffic to Mweb over the past 24 hours (current time on the right) - and it was the fastest I've had in the past week  . There's some serious issues.

I hope your joking! :wtf: You only need to look back at the past 30 pages to see the problems everyone is having.

Well, I can assure you my experience the last week has been highly disagreeable. That said, things finally seem to be working better now, thank god. :D

...it is communicated beforehand via email and the help centre...

Slight problem I see is that by default you only communicate it via the e-mail addresses you provide. I've never received any mail communications on downtime on the e-mail addresses I actually use, despite (I believe) providing alternative contact details on signup.

NNTP just about dead in the water again, pitty it was going so nicely since yesterday. I trust this is part of the tweaking process, so trust it will come back again.

Mine is dead -as in not connecting at all. I've rebooted my router now and still nothing. Grrrrrrrr...got stuff 1/2-finished now...with now idea of when MWEB will have a fix...

I can finally connect but the speeds are still troublesome. I guess it's related to the IPC migration you mentioned earlier. Hope it's sorted soon, everything was going so well till the last week or so.

Hi politallycorrect

We have tested and our news servers are working.

Kind Regards

20kbps off Mweb news server, 4mbps line.

Some files fly, others simply crawl at that speed. I gave up my international news server and switch to using theirs and only after hours and weekends...Guess being a good "network" friendly client does not mean much...
