Same here. Also on Mweb 4mb uncapped. Youtube actually has to buffer at 360p with nothing downloading in the background. I used to be able to stream. Those are some fond memories. I have rebooted the router several times, even leaving it off for a while, but the problem still persists. sigh...

MWEB Guy and Will, am I correct in saying one of you stated earlier that running Steam downloads from your servers wouldn't be seen as abuse, even if run for large amounts at a time, not 24x7 maybe 10 hours a day, this would be fine right?

MWEB 1:30 AM (it's worse in the day LOL - Tech support told me to try at night)

Other ISP 3:00 PM! (Same line, both 4Mb accounts)

MWEB 1:30 AM

It was recommenced that Telkom comes and checks my line, and reset my port (or move it to other one - don't know these things sorry)
I should also try another router and also try my account on another 4Mb line.

Damn :( I hope Telkom can help me, because this Internet makes me want to scream.

So, now it remains to be seen weather it's a Telkom or MWEB or router/computer/software fault.
I have formatted my computer, but no success. I will have to get my old computer running and try it on that.
Maybe I should get a new router?

Maybe I should get a new router?

I just got a new router last month, didn't help at all. I have the exact same issue as you. Switched to an old telkom account a while back and also experienced full line speed, without having to wait for youtube movies to buffer. Whether it was day or night, didn't make a difference.
I'm tired of tech support always implying the fault is on my side before they go to work, when clearly the fault is elsewhere. I think the only time I've ever had satisfactory results was the first month of signing up with Mweb, after which they started throttling me to death. At least there are no 24 month contracts.
I wish for once there could be a company which is truly selfless and aims at actually improving the state of broadband in SA instead of just coming up with schemes in which they can further line their pockets. The Economy is being held back by the ISP's and telecommunication(s) companies in SA. Take away the shaping, caps, do something about the LLU, lower the prices and you'll probably see a influx of subscribers, making up for lost profits anyway.

Ugh, anyway, I need coffee. Stop being useless, take pride in your job as a techie and Fix my f%&@#$ internet!
Rant Over.

My Video streaming is also messed up. It starts off fine, but then after about 5 seconds, it screams to a max of 30KBps. This is on YouTube, Screwattack.com and gametrailers.com. Also have a 4Mbps MWEB Uncapped account.

Is there a particular reason for this MWEB support guys? Did the overall shaping on Streaming become low priority now? Hope that you can give us a clue to what's happening. I don't want to leave MWEB, this is the first time in almost a year that I've had an issue.

PS. I have tried it in 3 different browsers, and tried downloading the videos using RealPlayer, no difference at all.

Mweb again slow.
Please fix your network.

Again HTTP is slow 20kb/s
Youtube cant even stream a 320p movie on a 4mb Line.

Good Morning Guys, please let me know if your streaming problem is encountered through the course of the day or from 10:30 pm onward. Please also test this during the course of the day and provide me with feedback.

Good Morning, please advise if you encountered a problem with streaming this morning or last night (please provide me with a timeframe if possible). Please also let me know if you encounter the problem during the course of the day or if it occurs periodically at any given time.

Hi Mweb Guy,

HTTP slow for me since the weekend and Youtube started this morning.

Good morning Soul Assassin, our AUP states that you would be in breach if your download usage pattern shows repeated instances of prolonged download sessions at line, or near line speeds which places an undue burden on our network. It is highly unlikely that you would need to download STEAM updates repeatedly.

What about if you buy a bunch of steam games and download 40+ gig which is pretty realistic to do? Team Fortress 2 which has gone F2P is like 12gig already....
Basically what you are saying is that for the user it is highly unlikely to happen (you are already wrong here) and that when it does the user will get banned?

He also asked if he downloaded for 10 hours via steam if that would be fine which you chose to ignore...I would also like to know the answer to that.

Edit 2: You have not come back to me about the SC2 lag issue after you said that your engineers will look into it.

You do not seem to be very clear on your statements Mweb Guy. Simple yes/no answers would be much better than these evasive statements.

Where are you downloading your HTTP from, please also provide me a link to the file you are downloading and I will test the speeds I get on the file as well. Please test your YouTube during the course of the day and keep me abreast of its performance.

+1

Thanks for the replies so far mweb reps, but yes, i agree, you guys are promoting and helping STEAM alot, but if there is a crazy weekend special and you buy3 or 4 games, average 8-15gb , will we get warnings?
almost seeing double standards here.

I wanted to download something now for the weekend to play at our lan, but its 31gb in total for 3 games, and i dont want to get into trouble :'(

If this is indeed the case, then PLEASE consider posting this on the mweb gaming and mweb adsl site, as this is a big reason why we get uncapped accounts, so that we can make use of STEAM games and downloads, but we dont want to get into trouble

**Edit :
What is uncapped?

The broadband terms capped, uncapped and unlimited have caused heated debates in the past, and to try to clarify these terms ISPA divided broadband services into four categories.

Unrestricted, uncapped Internet access: No cap. Acceptable use policy may only restrict illegal activity, not usage behaviour. May be linked to a specific access speed.

I will play fair if mweb plays fair.
PS MwebGuy, sorry for being direct, im not fighting, i just want CLEAR rules and a clear understanding of what i am paying for :)

Downloading games from steam is not going to cause you any problems. We look for consistent patterns of behaviour over an extended period of time when enforcing the AUP.

Kind regards,
MWEB Guy

Hi MWEB Guy. It was this morning, at around 7AM, as well as last night, unfortunately I cannot remember the time. Probably around 7 - 8 PM.
I am at work during the day, so I have no idea how it is during the day.

Thanks for the reply

Mweb Guy, my Mediafire downloads always use to download at about 300+KB/s, now its like one would be like 100KB/s and the rest are like 15KB/s (just downloading 3 files at a time after peak time)... Ive barely broke the 60GB barrier so far this month. Could you maybe check into my account to see if the problem lays there?

Hi Mweb Guy. Is the Internet playing up at the moment? Local speed test was going ok 20 min ago now it is bouncing all over the place with pings in the 700ms and download about 1.5MB, International speed test is giving me 200Kbs download and pings around 900ms. The speedtest needle is also bouncing around - 300 - 1.5Mb. Anyone else having problems?
