Keeps dropping for a couple of minutes - MWEB ???

512k here in Cape Town.

Connection constantly stalling and timing out since ~8PM.

Grrrrr....

Must say - speed is excellent at the moment - youtube vid's streaming beautifully @ 460p.... like there is no tomorrow !!!!

Me too.

Seems as though someone is playing with the light switches in the server rooms at MWEB, little does that person know, its not only the lights he is turning on and off :wtf:

Also been up and down all night for me.
First night on the account and it is getting me worried - I lost two games due to instant disconnections.... >_>

Phenie - did you also get charged R1078 when you signed up today ? ( I mean yesterday :-) )

Yes, I did.
They charged for 2 months it seems, I'm not entirely sure why - but in the control panel it says it is activated until the end of May.

If they don't improve this on-and-off thing I'll be sure to get a refund though. ;_;

I'm sure this would mean we wont need to pay until the 1st of june again?

Unless they always make you pay a month in advanced... like they might charge us for june at the beginning of may...

I'm sure this is not on their side - or at least I hope so, because it was affecting other users from other ISP's too...

I thought so too...but they apparently charge you a month in advance. So I think you will get another 539 deducted on the 1st of may. What happens I think is that if you cancel say on the 17th of a month. Your cancellation only starts from the 1st of the following month ( calendar month ) and then on that day - they do not bill you. This is where the "extra" month then pays for your month's subscription ( or notice month for lack of a better description )

yeah, oh well :) not that i'm complaining. I'm happy with this account so far. I've tested afrihost uncapped 4096 last month, openweb 4096 uncapped since midnight 1st april(i thought they just resell mweb, asking them for refund), and now this. mweb is the best choice.

After my first day on this account I'm well pleased. Http has been nice and snappy. Some international black outs tonight, but I think those were nationwide issues not just affecting Mweb. Astraweb nntp right now is flying along nicely at 400KB/s. All in all very acceptable so far. And now to bed...

MWEB Feedback

This is a great service. I am using a 4096 Uncapped account. During business hour I was getting a 200kb/s constant speed on News Servers (Astraweb). After the SA internet crash at 11pm, the service was back online and at Full Speed! Gaming on the service is phenomenal. I get 3/4 bars during peak and 4/4 bars after hours. Youtube is perfect no matter the time of day. You can have you Astraweb maxing out at 200 and still watch Youtube NO problem.

My results for now:

I have used a bit more than 10GB in one day... I am happy with that :)

ATM speeds slow. How can a public holiday be shaped? Surely corporates are closed today? This does not make sense

Its not shaping, its intermittent problems on the MWeb network (not sure if local or international). There also seem to be long (10 min) delays in switching traffic from SAT-3 to SEACOM (and vice-versa).

Theoretically this switching process should be instantaneous, if the alternate routes were available at IP level. It seems that switching is not very fast (which makes it feel like somone is turning the lights on and off).

MWeb is the first ISP (AFAIK) that is trying to do this dynamic load balancing across 2 different fibres, and this process presumably has teething problems...

IT's raining in JHB - that usually affects traffic lights and internet connections...should know by now.
