yep - was down here too.... approx 5 min

whats going on ?? Why is it so unstable ????

Its not just Mweb. It seems that IS had an Outage the exact same time. Seems like Seacom isn't as stable as Seacom CEO says it is.

I am assuming that things are going brilliant with the rest of the user base? :wtf:

What is your experiences thus far?

Its been great for me in Durbs on the 384K line. The first 3 days or so where not too grand but after that I haven't had any issues speed wise or latency wise. Speedtests run consistently at 0.33Mbps on download.. apart from the down times which everyone has spoken about, which I haven't noticed personally, I would reckon that Mwebs Uncapped offering seems to be the real thing and possibly the best one out there atm :)

i can hardly complain about it. i just love not having to set my router up to change accounts at certain times. and it works with great predictability as well.

Continues to perform well. Kids are home for the holidays and no-one is complaining about the internet.

Hi guys,

I'm new to mweb and 4mb dsl :)

I started my download yesterday at 5pm on my SAIX telkom account and it went from 40kbps (384k line) to 380kbps. So I got my 4mb line :)

Then I decided to go with MWeb uncapped... I got like 70 - 110kbps on my 4mb line with newshost. So this is the account and not the line :(

I did download a driver from http and I got a nice 280kbps but how can I get this on NH? Is it possible? I did read that you can get a Astra web account or something to get the full speed. Is it worth it?

Else I'm not sure if R413 + R513 = R926 is worth this. I can just as well go with the 512k line for R326 + R299 = R625 or even the 384kbps R152 + R219 = R371

I had a 384kbps line with a 3gb/20gb local account with telkom. That's R252. Then I'll download around 40gb so I get charged R15 X 20 = R300. So I paid around R552pm. is it really worth paying almost double?

It depends on your needs. I am on MWEB and I DL via Astraweb. In the beginning I used to get full speed @ night (420kBytes/s) but now it averages @ about 150kB/s during the day and 200kB/s at night from 20:00 – 02:00 then till 08:00 it gradually increases to 350kB/s. I’m happy with this, I average about 15GB per day and am able to game (locally and internationally) with fairly decent latencies without having to stop the DL’s. I stream a lot of Video and have DL’d some games from Steam, I get full speed most of the time. It’s awesome if you plan to buy games via Steam, it works out SOOOOO much cheaper. Even If you only buy 1 game per month, you save on average R200 per game + you don’t have to worry about cap when you downloading updates. That’s a winner.

That's true.. But my PC is just for downloading :) I downgraded coz I in front of a PC at work so... At home I got myself a PS3 and Fragnstein and it's really nice to put in a disc and it works :)

yea games are a bit more $$$ but I actually play a game from start to finish now :)

The other thing is I am starting my new job in Sandton (I stay in Fochville.. that's about 90km from my new work) and I'll be driving in and out for about 3/4 months so I don't know if I'll be using the DSl that much anymore coz I will not be able to watch any movies/series. I'll have to leave around 5am for work and leave for home around 6pm (hopefully I'll get my hours worked out so that I can leave around 4pm :)

So I don't have much time at night... So I have to choose:

4mb + Uncapped = R926
512 + uncapped = R625
384 + uncapped = R371

or my old setup of 384 + 3/20gb + 20gb local = R550...

Can anyone tell me how much I'll be able to download on those 3 uncapped packages. If I get the 384 I can maybe even get the $10 Astraweb account so my speed should be constant, right?

Thanks

If you're not going to have time to watch stuff, then you probably won't need to DL that much. In that case, I would go for 384, this will give you about 80-90GB's per month if you are constantly downloading. This should suffice for your needs.

yea on my old package I was downloading with SAIX on Newshost and by the 12th I should start stopping the download coz it was close to my "cap" and I'll get billed for the other stuff. That's why I figured I can maybe go with the 384k + uncapped (but my bro said if the stuff isn't cached then I'll only get like 5/6kbps :( ) and I like downloading a complete series from season 1 to season xxxxx...

I used to get about 40gb easily on Saix... If I can get about 80gb that's nice :)

Will mweb let me downgrade to a slower package if I only subscribed last night?

Cool - uncapped 4 meg here ... awesome thus far.

Mweb Uncapped for DL from News Servers?

could anyone that is:
  • on a 4MB line
  • using the Mweb 4MB Uncapped account,
  • downloading via news servers (such as GigaNews or Astraweb)

please post here what average speeds you're getting and at what time(s) during the day?

i was on the Axxess 4MB Uncapped (Shaped) and i was averaging around 6.8KB during the day :( ... i'm back on Express+ for now but would like to move over to Mweb if the speeds aren't too bad.

Yea I'll also like to know how that downloads from a place like giganews or astraweb :)

I've got Mweb 4MB uncapped and Astraweb.

I'm at work during the day and download only in the evenings and at night.

In the evening (from 18:00) it is usually about 150-170 kbs and by the time I go to sleep (around 22:00) its closer to 200 kbs. By the time I wake up (05:00) its going on full blast 400-420 kbs
