i don't understand all the hot and cold comments ? ok since i got uncapped on Friday ive been getting no less than 15 kbps (ok thats not blazing) and right now im getting 35 kbps.
I have nothing to complain about because in 3 days ive basically done my 5 gigs which i previously had with TI. so even if i manage to get around 15-20 gbs this month im one satisfied customer.
All the ppl complaining ... are you guys expecting to download the whole internet in a month or what? Is it your line that has a problem maybe ? What exactly do you want for the price you getting? I understand if its business and the speeds are nonsense but for the average end user.... let me ask you this : What would have you got for R219 a month 1 year ago? how many gigs worth. all this hatred and complaining is a bit petty if you actually acknowledge Mwebs beginning of the South African uncapped era?

From my point of view all i can say is THANK YOU Mweb : thank you for allowing me to stream youtube videos , browse all day long and grab a few downloads without giving 2 Sh!ites about my cap.thank you

See i disagree, there's alot more we COULD get if they gave it to us. Whilst you might be getting 35kb and nothing under 15kb, i get nothing OVER 15kb... so streaming music and vidz is useless at the best of times. I don't webpage timeouts etc etc but good grief, stop comparing us to ourselves, compare us to the US or UK... or even better, give me my consistent 35kb 'that i pay for' or else don't offer the service. I also believe latencies is another issue.

Thanks, will go a play and game or something and hope for the best later this evening...

fair enough bro but i don't understand WHY you get rubbish speeds where mine are average or just over? is there not an issue on your line or in the area.can't Mweb look into it for you? yeah i think if i got nothing over 15k for awhile id also be pretty peeved

How about this.

Lets say there is a bock of houses, Within that block there is twenty houses right! and ten of them have a adsl 4meg package, lets round off the cost of the package to 500 rand per unit right so that will be R5000 rand. Ok so how much do you think it costs them to maintain those ten lines per months I have no idea but surely less the 5000 rand. Just remember that the line is not cap which the Isp reseller will have to buy in bulk. Really now telkom are in it for the money. So you think im way off topic well my point is I do think that Mweb are in it for the money too The reason i say that is all you guys that have signed up to mweb uncapped packages found like I did that it was done very easily. Well they are working on the same business model as a cash and carry
buy in bulk
and not taking in account that there is a possibility that band width will run out
out of stock
. You must remember that Mweb were not the first to use the Seacom link. Yes yes it is seacom this time but really tell me has seacom become mwebs cop out!

Is anyone else having problems with rapidshare speed? I'm on a 4 meg line and I get average speeds of 70 KB/s

They are so keen on shaving bandwidth that they are pressing buttons so much and manipulating things that it is extremely unstable and unpredictable for customers.

The service is shaped, certainly it is. However the depth of shaping is very aggressive. They also degrade RS (and clones), P2P, Streaming, Games, Skype and anything they regard as affecting simple browsing on their very very narrow bandwidth.

Agreed Tanya35 , now to hunt down a better service than MWEB with their underhanded tactics.

Above is in short what I have experienced on MWEB - after a one month honey moon period, when I got virtually full line speed afterhours over Megaupload, torrents and grabit - I have now been frustrated by not even being able to browse websites.

The ultimate adding insult to injury was when I tried to view the highlights video posted on the supersport.com/rugby website - and they indicated that my 0kb is below their 150kb lowest stream.

I have now requested my cancellation form, I will upload it to mybb shortly, so that anyone wanting to cancel (as they need a calendar months notice) has easy access to the cancellation form.

I think that is fine on the 384 package, its not really that cool when you paying close to 3 times that on a 4mb line n getting similar speeds to what u getting.... i upgraded to 4mb, it was pretty fast last month, im trying to establish it this is maybe temporary, cos then i guess thats understandable with initial teething problems, seacoms issues etc, i have been getting erratic speeds btw sometimes its just spikes to full speed.... i havent been/tried any other isp....

Got the 4mb home uncapped on friday. On speedtest.net I was getting around 3mb over the weekend which is fine. However since about 4pm yesterday (sunday), I have been getting approximately 0.5mb on speedtest which I think is quite ridiculous when you are paying for a 4mb service. Can anyone help?

gazzz, have you tried to reboot the router/modem and see if the makes a difference?

Remember that on the home uncapped account you will have your traffic throttled and shaped if there are capacity problems on the network or during business hours. So it is very likely that your 4mbps (or 24mbps) connection will be reduced to 0.5mbps or less. To avoid this you should use an Internet Addict or Business Uncapped account. Else just make peace with it and accept that you get what you pay for.

Rouxenator,

Yes I have rebooted the modem - doesn't seem to make a difference.

At this time in the day I really don't mind getting speeds of 0.5mbps since it is office hours and is exactly what I was told. I just found it weird that on one day during the weekend I was getting high speeds whilst on another they were significantly lower.

Email, browsing everything VERY slow ATM. Whats going on?

Clarification: I'm getting high latency (>120ms) on MWeb TO Telkom circuits, probably due to congestion.

I'm getting normal latency on my DSLAM, CT-Jhb, and MWeb to SEACOM and JINX-TENET routes.

I have also found intermittent speeds over the weekend however last night from about 20:00 onwards everything seemed to be fine and doing 400+ kb/s
Perhaps there is a lot of contention on your ADSL exchange ?
