It. Is. Awesome. (Not the quality, the line) The quality is not particularly good but it's good enough for the kids to watch :)

There won't be 20 of them in future, I'm just stress testing really.

Now if I can just get the kind folks at Mweb to get hold of me for the other 4mb line...

Torrents have moved quite briskly for me for the past two night from 1-5am. News servers are still stagnant, and despite promises from the MWeb representative that things would be better after the upgrade, things are definitely worse.

What does this mean for our news server access? Will it be more of the same until the end of October, or will we have proper speeds from this weekend as advised earlier?

Hi Randhir

Things should improve after the weekend, please hang in there.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

Odd that when that question was answered that there was no mention of news severs being a 'outdated technology', and their rep said that things should get better, but now there's a complete 180.

It is a 24 year old protocol so don't be to hard on it, in computer years that close to a 100.

24 year old protocol that works fine with other ISP's including Telkom. I just don't get why they had to lie about it, that's all.

Just because somethings is old, does not mean it is useless. In that time a bunch of stuff started and fall to the wayside. Napster, KaZaa, eMule...

You must then argue that TCP/IP should be done with as well, since it is also too old, or X86...

Torrents are king and it does not bloat data with 24 year old 7-bit UUencoded chunks of steaming hot pooh-pooh.

Man it's rough coming from the relative splendour of a 4mb line to the festering pile of a 384. Pages still load erratically, downloads have a high of 1.3 or so k.

Where are those stats coming from btw?

@ MWEB

Is there, or will there ever be a possibility of introducing a 1Mbps / 2Mbps uncapped shaped package?
The reason I'm asking is simply because Telkom's network serving my area cannot deliver 4Mbps speeds, although I have a 4Mbps line. On a good day my max DL speed is around 2.2Mbps (using a capped account), so a package with 1 or 2 Mbps speed restriction would be ideal for me, and I'm sure many others.
