No, the Parchives are an extra overhead above the 1.33333x bloat factor of 7bit encoding.
 
I also delete the par files. Program tells me if they corrupt or not. 9/10 they fine.
 
Derailing?

I have to say that my connection has been a lot better and the speeds are back to acceptable (not 100% happy). I still get the odd issue with downloading files via HTTP, it took me 5 attempts to download dropbox for example. As a work around I guess I can get a download manager.

I think this thread is kinda derailing :D. Cant we create a new thread for news servers vs torrents or for MWEB news server feedback or whatever?
 
Almost forgot - the reason NNTP looks faster is because it can be compressed in realtime since it is pretty much text mode data. Just like when you download a massive text file it comes in at a really highspeed.
 
Well last night again I got very slow speeds from astroweb 20k a second on my 4 Meg line. If I combine mweb news with it,, then I get 40k yay,, but sometimes the local server does go faster.

I phoned mweb last night.. they did the standard stuff.. port reset and account reset. did not help. Mweb said that there are no problems on their network.

When i phoned the second time they told me, that work was done on the network earlier in the week, but that done now and this is how its properly gonna be from now on speed wise. There is another bandwidth upgrade happening this monht (Hmm we have heard that one before)

Funny Tuesday Night I was crusing at 250k and then at 9pm I droped to 20k and it been slow ever since. hmm that spells a problem on mwebs network.
 
During day 30kB/s,from 6pm-11pm 120 kB/s,full speed after 11pm
On thelast week-end I got full speeds all hours.
Can't complain - at those speeds it is still very good value for money
Sorry this is on NNTP!

my avg. DL speed last night, from 11pm till 8am, was 50kb/s ...... :mad:RAGE:mad:

Internet today is as slow as a donkey, yet speedtst says 4mb/s ........................
 
I had the same problem but changed from @mweb.co.za to @dslmweb.co.za and shaped traffic when up to 200kb/s.

news.mweb dead through most of the night, had to reset my router again to get a whopping 2K download! on a 384 line. Either they can't fix it or we are being shaped too much. It would be nice of Mweb to let us know, though. If they can't fix it then just say so! If it's shaping then just say so! But just come to some kind decision...
 
mY SPEED last night was amazing, was dl from news.mweb and http. going at my full line speed the whole night. I am based CT. ALso on mweb.
 
Another pathetic night on Mweb uncapped. Still only doing 10% of before.

Tech support phoned me last night and admitted they don't know what the problem is and can't fix it. He said there is no point in escalating it as all they get back is "it's shaped".

Cancellation email sent.

Yup also send mine today, have a good mind to cancel the debit order too. What line do you have, and to which ISP are you moving too?

Just read that Mweb won ISP of the year, well done!

I find it so weird that some are having such great performance and some are have such a terrible time.

I thought the whole point of the MWEB network is that it was balanced for all?
