MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

I should add that in my neighborhood they don't give subscribers 4mbps lines. Telkom says the best they can do on the local exchange is 512kbps. However since I am thee Rouxenator they put me on a 4mbps trial back in May, needless to day it is still going strong ;)
With the rest of the folks struck on 512kbps and 384kbps there is no chance I will get congestion - so whenever Mweb opens the floodgates I get my 440kb/s

Ive been having issues downloading certain files via HTTP for a while now. The download just stop after a while. I sent a mail to MWEB support. They only replied after 3 days. I downloaded a file from Microsoft and replied. I got a mail today saying that I should use a download manager. WTF? It took 4 days for them to tell me to bugger the hell off and get a download manager? Well I tried to download the download manager and it failed twice at 12% and 49%!!!

meh I give up.

Um, How does someone other than thee Rouxenator get a 4mb trial account?

Hi fbman

We are currently looking into this.

Kind Regards
MWEB Operations

How about just stop using news servers and use something else?

Almost all downloading is being shaped, badly. I don't use news servers (don't even know what they are) or torrents and I'm getting speeds of 8, 9, 12kb/s on my premium fileshare downloads whereas previously I was getting 400kb/s.
MWeb have obviously changed the way they are doing things and are not being transparent about it. My cancellation letter is typed up and queued to send at 23h30 on Friday 29/10/2010.

I had/have no problems on P2P, currently it is doing about 20kb/s and my HTTP is fullspeed.

EDIT :
Almost all downloading is being shaped, badly.
News servers are no so much being shaped as they are being swamped by people that fail to understand their inefficiencies.
Just because Mweb is not willing to splash out thousands on bigger pipes and better hardware for their news server does not mean they are shaping it.
They should rather spend it on more international capacity for the rest of us normal folks that use HTTP and P2P.

20kb/s on a 4MB line - less than 4% of line speed - if that good to you, no wonder you're happy with them.

I am happy because :
1) this is office hours and I don't really expect them to give me fast P2P since I am not on the Internet Addict package.
2) my Pando downloads are coming in at a steady 300kb/s so my connection is actually being used at 320kb/s.
3) when my Pando downloads finish I have a crapload of HTTP downloads that I will start and they will do about 400kb/s

So I am very happy. If you understand how they treat the traffic then you can prioritize what traffic you do at what times.
By just doing that I have managed to do 333GB so far this month - not bad for what I am paying for.

You're such a tool its beyond belief. Those news providers have more bandwidth than you can even imagine. Not once on my news provider has my speeds dropped under 330kB/s (my line syncs at 3mb)
