Very dissapointing so far tonight for me as well. Last weekend it was flying, this weekend it's dying. 56k dial-up speed at best. Starting to believe in the "round robin theory".

Interestingly if I run torrents,Filehosting and NNTP all at once I reach full line speed.

I tried that.

I've noticed SpeedTest to London (and any of the usual destinations) gives me 3.5MB/s - if I chose a unusual place in europe or the US - I get 0.3

Can anyone recommenced a decent internet speed monitor? It needs to be configurable as to what it monitors - as my internet connection is through my LAN...and I stream HD content throughout the house, so I don't want that monitored.

I'm currently peaking at 200KB/ - which seems to only happen on weekends, and not after hours during the week.

I use NetWorx, if I remember correctly you have some config options as to the type of traffic it should monitor. For instance, I use different dial-up pppoe connections, which it recognises and measures seperately.

I'm officially over the mweb thing. Absolute waste of my money. Going to try Openweb. They have uncapped and UNSHAPED for R196. Nothing could be worse than this.

But it will take a miracle for MWeb ops to admit there is an issue.

I phoned technical support on Thursday night.. when this all started.. and they did reset my account etc.. but it did not help

Last night just before I went to bed (just after the dip at 22:30) I loaded the Fedora 14 DVD images in uTorrent, as I need to install a machine the weekend. I think this is a reasonable download speed. At the same time I am uploading a 2.1GB file via SSH to our corporate hosted server at Hetzner. This is running at 15-20 kB/s ATM - not quite as good as I had hoped. I suspect this has to do with the peering cut, though. And I only need to do it once, and don't use my laptop for anything else the weekend, so I don't mind waiting.

Granted, I only get this in the mornings after 1am (almost on the dot), but I have started to run my downloads only at night, leaving my link free for browsing in the evenings. The past 3 months my usage has dropped considerably, down to between 30 and 50GB a month.

Please attempt renaiming your news server name from news.mweb to 196.28.182.20. Please provide feedback once attempted.

Please advise if your browisng speeds are sluggish when you are not downloading?

Shaped – this traffic is given a lower priority and will always give way to meet the demands of high priority and unshaped traffic – all types of Peer 2 Peer, file sharing (one-click-hosting) and binary newsgroup traffic are placed into this category.

Anyone having problems with Steam? Trying to install / play Black Ops, and my steam just stays 'Connecting to steam account: ' forever. It's now been 20 minutes. I've restarted steam a number of times, rebooted routers + PC, turned off firewalls, all without luck.
