Happy with shaping as long as it works ..... hell, I'm even happy with the speed because it's shaped. I just wanna know that ok, such and such a time is shaped and after hours it will be all good again, that's all (sometimes it just stays shaped 24/7) ;)

We've always said that shaping is dynamic and that we simply can't guarantee time periods when it will be faster or slower as it's dependent on overall network load as well as the demand for p2p traffic at any given time.

We do have broad time slots allocated for weekends, public holidays and later in the evening in which p2p is given more headroom. I'd prefer not to communicate the exact times. Firstly because they are subject to change and secondly because people have a tendency to set their stop watches by these if they are published and it can actually cause artificial traffic spikes.

Our business adsl dropped about 2 times during the weekend. We are using a home account now as we feel the business ADSL perform worse in many ways. The way it's performing we will be thinking of cancelling once the contract ends and go for home account.

Hi Nelis,

I have sent your business ADSL account concerns to our Business Premier department.

If they do not contact you with in the next hour, you can get hold of them directly for prompt assistance on 0860 000 158 / 0113407165

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

ok thanks. I feel that business ADSL doesn't really fit into business. You are not the only ISP sitting with issues. looks like all the business account doesn't give you a high availability at all.Home accounts is the way to go.

Hi Nelis. Sorry to hear that you're having problems again. I did mail your Dad after our last conversation and indicated to him that he should contact me directly if I could assist in any way with the back and forth you've been having with Telkom. It's a standing offer so please ask him to let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Hi Will

Are there still problems with the network? My Telkom connection allows me to play COD: BO with no issues, but Mweb doesnt find any of the local servers :(
I'm on the 4mb shaped uncapped account.

Thanks

Hi Mephisto We've never given any indication that news server traffic wasn't shaped. We do realize that there is a segment of our customers who make use of the MWEB News server and we do try and give this some additional priority, however this traffic ultimately still falls into the p2p class and will be shaped accordingly.

On my side my concern is until Tuesday I could get nearly full line speed on at any given time, and over night it changed to 10 KB/s peak time with Mweb stating no dramatic change was made to shaping, I understand that it is a cheap uncapped account so I basically get the leftovers from every one else. I just wish the change was communicated to me beforehand rather than me having to have to troubleshoot.

Last Result:
Download Speed: 238 kbps (29.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 92 kbps (11.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: -1 ms

It has been 8 days and no progress is being made.

Hi PhreeMe,

When you say "Telkom connection" do you mean a Telkom UID/Password you configure in the router and that account works fine when you play COD?

Kind regards,

MWEB Guy

Well I did and he mailed mweb. But still MWeb doesn't care to help us. Can you please call us ASAP so that we can sort this out. Last week our business adsl was down like almost every day and my home account was working super fine.

what he meant was. He bought a Telkom account and is using that. With the Telkom account he can see black ops servers and log in fine. When he's going back to MWEB account he's struggeling to log in, can't see local server etc. I'm also having the same issue

Nelis can you specifically let us know which black ops servers?
I tested Black Ops myself over the weekend and I didn't experience any issues in terms of gameplay, etc. I have a Telkom test account available myself so I will try to replicate exactly what you're describing this evening. I must admit though I don't completely understand how you're able to play BlackOps on a Telkom account given the peering situation being what it is, or are their Black Ops servers being hosted elsewhere?

all of them. I can find them it's just that the game is taking forever to pick them up. MWEB is the only ppl in south africa hosting black ops servers. If I find a server everything is fine but still I'm struggling to find any servers.

Understand where you're coming from schumi and as I mentioned in another thread I have asked our engineers to revisit the priority on the MWEB news server specifically to see if there is anything that can be adjusted. However I don't want to create the expectation that shaped customers should expect consistently high speeds on this service as it does fall within the realm of p2p.

I did notice myself that the server list doesn't always populate consistently.

Especially as I hadn't played Blackops for a while myself it seemed to be quite random in terms of which servers appeared in the browser especially when trying to locate an empty server. I found that filtering the list to exclude empty servers gave me a much better list. Obviously I understand that that's not always practical if you're trying to join a particular server to play a clan match.

What I don't know is how much of this is just an inherent Black Ops issue, or if there is anything we can do on our side to improve the situation, but I'll certainly look into it further and let you know.

Hi Shevath,

Please inbox me your MWEB account details and an actual DL speed test from and international & local site.

Also include a tracert and a ping.

As for me, I am disgusted, After the euphoria I had with the huge improvement in the newsserver performance that lasted but one evening I only had pain. The movie file i am downloading will now be in the third week. Believe it. This whole weekend was a news-server fiasco, I eventually turned it off all Sunday, I switched on this morning and could not connect. I shut down the router for 30 minutes and now I am crawling at 20KB/s. It estimates another 9 days to download the remainder of the file. It seems just not worth the bloody effort.

Hi MWG

I've created 2 seperate PPPOE connections (Telkom and Mweb) and left the router with it's default config. COD used to play fine but - without suggestion this can be the problem - it seems to have struggled since the last outage.
I'm in KZN if that helps any.

Thanks again!

Just checked again, cannot connect or just 14-20KB spikes.

News server just died for me, was stumbling along at 4kB/s on 1 connection for most of the day, but now I see it wont connect at all.
