MWEB Uncapped VS. WebAfrica Titan

i have our business running on MWEB business uncapped (my personal is the home business uncapped - R539), i know of 4 (2 on a 4meg line, 2 on 384s i think) other people on MWEB uncapped that are getting the same results as i am (all in different areas). all in all i and other are VERY pleased with the uncapped from MWEB.

P.S. check this thread that has started http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?237027-Webafrica-Titan-Latency&p=4052117#post4052117

Thanks for the info. I did check that thread out when it first started and two things struck me. The first is that all the replies were of a different tone, the one suggesting that it might be due to the fact that WA being based in Cape Town and the that particular customer being based in JHB. The other thing that struck me a more powerful blow was the fact that within a few hours the Engineering Manager from WebAfrica had replied to the thread promising to look into the problem! Now that's good PR! Any ISP that trawls forums and looks into complaints with that kind of efficiency deserves my money!

gotta say im super stoked with mweb uncapped. i avg around 150gb / month - which is bucket loads. Most of it i havent even watched yet, which means i'm gonna be downloading less in the coming months

Yea thats quite impressive i have to admit...but give mweb a shout their support is very helpfully...i dont have any issues with them...give them a try and see how things go with them

What a lot of People are forgetting to mention is the MAIN reason the guy wants to get better internet and that is for gaming yes you can get low latency on South African servers such as Mw and BBC2 through Mweb but as for Mweb and WA when it comes to latency overseas Wa wins by quite a shocking amount, As for my needs i personally take WA over Mweb uncapped for gaming as

A) Webafrica is way more reliant when it comes to playing games overseas (uptime etc, most my friends using the uncapped Mweb have been left unable to browse internationally quite a few times last month)
B) Currently get between 220-260 ms Playing World of Warcraft on A European Realm through proxy and this on their shaped account
C) WA has stable international latency and Mweb does not (one second it is up one second it is down sometimes)

So in my opinion if you want best for your money and just game Locally (BBC2, CounterStrike, Dota, Mw, etc) but still want to download huge amounts of data go Mweb
But if your like me and Play mmos and other international games (Wow, SC2, Lotro, Eve, Etc) and do not need as much data to download movies music etc go Webafrica :)

Help this helps :)

I'm in the same boat as most of the people - experiencing extremely horrific service from these A$swipes and i'm getting more and more fukkked off with these stooopid kuntts.....i've experienced max download speeds of <50Kb/s for the past 3 days, phoned mweb and telkom repeatedly today . ....no effin joy!!!!! And to think i actually pay my bills timeously for this effin crap service . . . fukkkk you MWEB -
Way to go MWEB - proving that you guys can offer the world and actually deliver for 2 days in an entire month - I so wish we had other options so i could phone MWEB support and tell them they can suck my KOKK and fukkkk off with their ****tttyyyy service -

Apologies for my tone - but i'm sick and tired - and all those people that tell me that i can cancel my subscription so they can benefit from one less MWEB user and have an overall better internet experience - i say - wake up...smell the roses - one less person aint gonna make a difference to your internet experience - hell a 100 000 less people wont - you know why - mWEB is just out to make money - load up on as many subscriptions - split the load and see how far and feasible it can be till they can the service - throw it out as an unfeasible venture yet extremely profitable venture while it lasted.

I would strongly discourage new DSL user to go the MWEB route - rather support a less crappy Service Provider. There are none out that are good enough - but theres tons out there thats less crappy than the FUKKKNUTS!

MWEB is experiecing slow speeds at the moment because of some cable issues. Believe me when that gets resolved it will be back to 1TB per month. I pull on average 230GB per month but that's on 'casual' downloading - never through the night. MWEB is the better value option. If you need low latency go for something else. If you need fast daytime torrent go for something else but what good is a fast torrent if you can only pull 30GB or 50GB. I did that much on iBurst.

Noted and i totally agree PeterCH....yet if i pay a crapload for a service ...is it too much to expect the service you pay for?

I mean really now? I'm not talking about rapidshare, megaupload, hotfile or any of those, i'm talking about pure HTTP, FTP protocols, traffic that would otherwise never be shaped. Even my RDP and telnet protocols are way way way slower that usual. SMTP has slowed to a standstill................
So with all these people with these blanket statements like ' oh hell you shoulda read the fine-print about shaping ' i say . . . . get a life and perhaps a little more education. I'm not as stupid as to just complain without performing every and all tests at my disposal before venting. My complaint is directed at both my international and local bandwidth - i just crapped out almost R2000 today for MWEB and telkom etc etc and what sort of service am i getting????

MWEB has been 'fine' all along.....but one never remembers the good or 'fine' when one experiences nothing but 'BAD' for days on end ....right? Fluctuating, unpredictable and unstable service may be better than no service at all.....but.... realistically wouldnt it be nice if things just weren't the way we've gotten used to.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I've made my final decision: WebAfrica it is.

Here is a comment I left on one of the other threads that pretty much sums up my feelings on this debate.

I would assume that it's life and deal with it. As life is not perfect and fussing about it just proves useless. In my experience leaving the fist shop keeper for another shopkeeper just ends up with other problems. I think there is a saying the grass is not always greener on the other side? While that might be going a bit far out of context, my point is one will never be truly happy with the service. I was with Openweb before MWEB and they had their share of ups and downs, and that was with a 10GB Semi-Shaped account, never mind uncapped. And I've seen the pattern here as well, people jump ship more than people change their underwear. Why? Because the ISP had a week? Month? Then they rant on how crap the service is and how these ISP's lie and scam us. It's like the world revolves around them, forgetting that actual people do hard work to supply this service at this cheap rate and that they are most likely just as annoyed as you are, not to mention all the verbal abuse they take. I think as a consumer one should also some respect.

Don't get me wrong, if the service doesn't work for you, change. By all means. But don't come around saying this and that, and they are **** because you had a bad experience. Say I like the sugar at this shop, and I don't mind waiting for it. Because at the end of the day I know the sugar is good. Even if the shopkeeper could not supply me at the time I needed it. I know that the Shopkeeper did everything he could, to supply me with my sugar. Not to forget, that the same shopkeeper has to supply thousands of other people as well and not just me. And please lets don't forget that the shopkeeper had no control over the truck, he just signed a contract saying the truck will arrive at said time with enough sugar for everyone. The shopkeeper at the end of the day is just as pissed as you are, as he is wasting money on a service that he is also not getting.

The service clearly states the terms and conditions and that it's shaped and anybody with an IQ would know because it's a new service, several hic-ups are to be expected for the first 6 months, if not more.

Bleh - now I'm done.

I disagree with this pretty strongly.

First of all, fussing about it definitely does not prove useless. If we didn't fuss about products that we aren't happy with, companies would either exploit us or not realise that their product was of an inferior quality. This is simply fact. A companies first priority is profit, and if consumers stick with an inferior product without complaining or declining to buy it, the company will not lose profit in order to increase the quality of their product. Consumers have only one bargaining chip with which to advocate for quality services: the ability to choose which product to go for.

I think that it is fantastic that South African consumers are becoming so demanding about quality internet services. In the last few years I have noticed a definite increase in the amount of complaints and demands for better quality and cheaper internet in this country, and looks what happened this year: Internet prices have dropped significantly. This proves that the ISPs in South Africa respond to consumer demands. Why stop now?

Your comment about the need to have "respect" as a consumer I find particularly puzzling. One of the cornerstones of consumerism is that the customer is always right. Not only is it logical that if one is unhappy with the quality of a paid service one has the right to complain, it is set out in law in the Consumer Protection Act.

My last comment is regarding the supply and demand issue. What Mweb has essentially done is oversold their bandwidth. "enough sugar for everyone" is simply a false statement, as if everyone used their bandwidth at the advertised capacity, the entire network would grind to a halt. Wait... isn't that what is happening? The Consumer Protection Act specifically mentions overselling products as bad behaviour which is precisely what Mweb has done. It's like overbooking a movie theatre, assuming that a certain percentage of people won't pitch. It's just unethical. They saw an opportunity for a quick buck, knowing that half of the country would jump onboard as soon as the mentioned "affordable uncapped", and are making potloads of money, to the detriment of their "valued" customers.

When I first heard about the uncapped deals I was very excited, and questioned the sanity of ISPs like WebAfrica who declined to offer similar packages. In retrospect I see that WebAfrica made the right choice. What will happen when consumers get sick and tired of the bad quality uncapped packages? They'll switch to the good quality, but equally cheap high cap packages on offer elsewhere. I just don't think Mweb and the rest thought that it would start happening so soon.

Its too late to wanna join. All there accounts are sold out, unless you take the option of them taking over your line as well....

I understand your frustration. I would suggest that you hang in there a bit longer. Your complaints are good because MWEB can see that customers are unhappy.

Speeds are very slow ATM. I think we should see after the SEACOM thing is resolved, because there are now two issues - MWEB's capacity and an additional maintenance issue.
