Has anyone managed to get dstv now installed and working on an mxq pro android tv box? I still get the message that the device is rooted. If you did, would you mind sharing step by step? I know this has been discussed before, but i cannot find a solution.

I do not expect there to be a simple step by step guide to doing this. As I am sure, you did read the other thread and I spent hours trying different devices and each one has to be handled separately. The other main issue with most Android TV boxes, is that they might have the same name and same processor chip set but I have seen them differ and come from different manufacturers thus having unique firmware on each of them.

There is a very high risk rooting the device and if you can root it, you can probably get DSTV Now working but this is not going to be a simple risk free process. I have already bricked one device and cannot fix it as no firmware is easily available anywhere online.

If anybody can get a MXQ Pro to me, I can try getting DSTV now working but a guide might be impossible. I also know that the MXQ is a generic TV box meaning that there is no patent on the box design thus there is many manufacturer's making them. Also, if a manufacturer uses any different chip (such as Wifi), they make a custom build of the firmware. If you flash the incorrect firmware, you might brick the device or have one with no Wifi.

It was working. Isn’t with the latest version. Download the hide my root app and then try. Use Dstv v 1.40.5

I had it working yesterday using rootcloak. The moment I restarted the MXQ it stopped working and I was given the error.
Would it not be simpler (I have no idea how) to mod the app to not look for root?

I have this MXQ

To get DSTV NOW 1.40 working..I did the following:

1. Installed Terminal Emulator from PlayStore
2. Started Terminal Emulator
3. Ran the following commands in the terminal:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
cd system
cd xbin
rm su #I removed su cos I won't need it in future, better option is mv su /system
cd ..
cd bin
rm su
reboot
4. Installed version 1.40 apk

The problem is that DStv Now and other apps find the su app even if you unroot the device. As noted in stepper's post you have to delete the file after unrooting which is a biatch if you do not have a custom-recovery flashed. If you absolutely need root, rather flash Magisk.
