MY New PC. Woot

Eish guys Im already so confused it's not even funny. FSB speed over 4 cores.

Im going to use this setup for gaming so the E6850 should pwn the Q6600 right?

I hate upgrading.

It won't pwn it, in a recent tomshardware article which is posted somewhere here the increased FSB made no difference, when the quad was clocked to the e6750(in this case) both to 3ghz there was NO difference. So FSB is highly overrated. If you want a dual core go E6750 and OC it.
Still between the two i would definately go for the quad.(and i have:D)

@Zenbaas
That's true, but he did ask what we thought. :P

Don't have a link, but go to the raidmax SA website, they've got it there with some nice pics. The only place I've seen it for sale is Digital Planet, which makes me hesitant, but I think I'm going to buy it anyway, unless someone gives me a good reason not too.

PC International also seems to sell them...

beanie u seriously happy with the Q6600. Difference in price between the E6850 and the Q6600 is R100 so yeah. What to do?

The Q6600 is clocked at 2.66 right?

Yes I am :)

It's clocked at 2.4GHz stock, but can easily be overclocked to 3GHz on stock cooling (I did) :)

9k for a pc with an 8400

o my word

why did you buy an sli mobo, u plan on sliing an 8400?

im sure for 9k you could have gotten

quaddie - 2.4k
gigabyte mobo dsr3 1.9k
2 gig ocz - 1k
8800gt - 2.5k
250 gig hdd - 800
power supply lets say 900
case 1k

10.5k

personally thats more than you paid, although get a cheaper power supply like a gigabyte 430 watt which is fine for anything below a 8800gtx

knock off 300
go for a 3850 vga card another 500 bucks
200 off the cpu price for a 6850

ouch man

10.5k minus 300 less another 500 less another 200

take off another 300 cheaper memory

R9.2k

ouch

As I said (and Messugga pointed out) in the first post, this card is a cheap, temporary card for now. I plan to swop it out for a better card soon.

I'm thinking of doing a similar upgrade but with a quad core and 8800GT
I'm not sure if I should buy from Take 2 though

@sufferwell - you can work on specs and then go to take2, prophecy or digitalsaonline to see who'll give you the best price.

Personally, I'm an AMD fanboy!

This is my current list at Kalahari.net, the aquatank looks good but expensive
GameXStream PSU. 700W Sustained. 1,343.95
Gigabyte™ 3D Aurora570 Black Aluminum 1,298.95
Intel Core2 Quadro Q6600 quad core 2.4ghz box cpu 2,625.95
ASUS EN8800GTX AquaTank/HTDP 7,379.95
Asus P5L-MX LGA 775 Intel 945G Micro ATX Intel Motherboard 752.95
PC2-6400 DDR2 2Gb Dual Channel Kit (2 X 1Gb) Platinum XTC 1,143.95

Total R14,545.70

I'll shop around and see if I can find better specs for cheaper.

According to Asus and their cpu support page, the mobo does not support the Q6600 also why get a GTX when a GT performs almost as well at less than half the price. Rather get a GT and swap the mobo for something decent ie any of the P35 chipset mobo's (also more future proof)

I still needed to research the motherboard, thanks I was confused because the motherbord model says P5 but did not realise the chipset was 945G

If you are looking at getting a Q6600 and overclocking, then I would recommend getting one from prophecy, for R100 extra they will garauntee you a Q6600 with Q0 stepping which clocks up like a monster.

I'm thinking of going with prophecy right now, anyone purchased from them? service good?

I definitely had a good experience with them a few months ago when I got some stuff. The comms and feedback was really good. Personally, I would recommend them. Try digitalsaonline for reference as well

Ok, sticking my nose in, but here is what I would suggest:

Isonic Omega Modular 600W (brilliant yet cheap PSU)
8800GT, with a good third party cooler, OC and you've basically got yourself GTX performance.
Go cheaper on the case and get a decent Motherboard mate. (Plenty decent cases for much less)

P.s. Prevent yourself from being raped and shop around. Those prices are far from stellar!

+1

On your budget you can actually run the 8800gt's in sli, and have change

OK, will do

Thanks, I'll go with a GT probably, I just I liked the idea of an aquatank out of the box, but I could easily buy an add-on aquatank for a GT I guess :D

Edit.
I'm importing Vista ultimate 32bit OEM from the US and it only cost me a little over R1000 excl shipping, shipping is R2000 but that is mainly for the macbook which will still end up being cheaper compared to if I bought it locally, so I'm saving on Vista a little

Prophecy is really good all round, communication, prices, service etc.

I got my Case, CPU Cooler, Fans, Ram heat spreaders, Motherboard and PSU from them last week.
