My New PC!

you are outta luck man.... the lowest supported delta PSU is GPS-550AB A (550W)

400W is cutting it real low man...

Hopefully it will work as a temporary thing:confused:
Just until i can find a buyer for my Kidney

Hey Guys',
My First propper PC is arriving from America on Saturday Afternoon so i will have it Sunday Morning:cool:
Specs are as follows;

HIS Radeon HD 4870
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300
4 x 1 Gig OCZ DDR2-800
Gigabyte P45-DS3L Motherboard
Seagate Barracuda 500gig Hdd
Seagate Barracuda 160gig Hdd

I still need to get a Case and Power Supply by friday.
Case is sorted (Bought a a Coolermaster CM690, getting on Saturday)
I am stuck for a PSU now:o

My budget is very limited, and i HAVE to have a PSU by friday....
The current PSU that came with the Gigabyte case i have is a 400w ( Delta:confused:)
Last week Saturday at a Lan i was using my friends spare 8800 GTS 640 Mb in my computer to play COD4/COD5 and a bit of Crysis, no problems. So the PSU can run that.
12v +1 is rated to 16 Amps
12v +2 is rated to 14 Amps
It also has 1 PCI-E 6 Pin plug.

Will it run the 4870? Or do i have to get a new PSU, and if so what PSU because i am limited for cashhh:)

Thanks Guys

4870 needs 2x 6-pins, apart from the fact that it won't handle the 4870.

You'll have to get a new one, Corsair HX520W or the non-modular version, Coolermaster etc.

Dont you get conerters? Actually as far as i know it comes with a coverter

PLEASE also remember, IF you are going to be crossfiring 2 4870's in the future - get a PSU that will be able to hold 2 of 'em (check that list) otherwise you will have to buy ANOTHER again, soon.

..just putting that out there...

are those things stable running on different molex cables?

with a 4870..meh...ok..why not.
but if it was an X2 i wouldn't even try that LOL!:D

Sharkbait do you think the E8400 is better than a q6600 for the 4870x2? everybody says the q6600 will bottlneck the X2.

I see you have the E8400 and was thinking of rather getting that, but i'm not sure...

I personally doubt it, because I saw the performance of a PC with a Q6600 and the HD4870X2 and I didn't see a CPU bottleneck. If you're worried, just overclock the Q6600 to 3GHz ;)

I was thinking that the E8400 is also a bottleneck and that is why I am OCing the proc. But I only have the intel stock cooler now. I was thinking of getting water cooling again and push it to at least 4Ghz. The thing is, I think if you OC the Q6600 to say 3.2Ghz, then I think it will be less of a bottleneck than the E8400...

The q6600 at stock will no doubt bottleneck it, you need to run an overclocked q6600 or even better would be a 4.0ghz e8400 i think.

eish..in the old days it was simple. a 333MHz or a 400MHz.

today its so confusing between
-Fast Dual core E8400/500
-a Slower,Older Quad core Q6600

and not forgetting the newer i7 chips, with smaller dies, faster FSB, but less MHz than the Q6600...

it's so bladdy confusing! My instincts tell me the q6600 is a good chip though.

Edit:

sharbait - wil be running at 1920

lol found that link on ANOTHER FORUM yesterday - but every benchmark tells a different story.

I think it comes down to:

the E8500 or so might beat the q6600 by a few frames - but when you have to do some video encoding/etc, you're gonna wish you had the quad....

basically, even IF the e8500 did beat the q6600 on all games, does it justify it if it's 10 frames a second faster ?

My point was that the Q6600 is not nearly as big a bottleneck as some might have you believe, even at stock. Again, you can always overclock it to 3GHz if you're feeling unsure :)
