MyBB guide to quitting smoking

I just wish I could smoke only when I felt like it. I actually enjoy it, but its the other times when you end up smoking just out of habit that gets to me.

I wish I could have 1 or 2 a day after work at home with a beer. Doesn't work like that though :(
It comes down to breaking the habit consciously. Whenever you reach for the pack out of habit, try and make a conscious decision to put it back down. You can do without it, it's not going to kill you.

TBH the only smokes that I really enjoy are the ones after a meal, or with a cup of coffee. The others taste siff, and I only do it to get my fix so that I don't end up getting cranky.

Yip I am exactly the same, after meals and with coffee. Otherwise the rest are gross and totally just out of habit.

I have to have something to drink, I cannot smoke without something to get of the taste.
That is just too weird, so you pretty much hate smoking but love it at the same time?
You mentioned something a while back about not being a nicorette fan but surely there must be something for you?

Yip I am also the same. Nothing worse than smoking on a dry mouth. Even if it is water.

For me there is nothing better than a coke and a smoke :D

Well I seriously fell off the wagon this morning. Had 2 smokes and now I feel like sh#t.

Its just a minor setback, just leave it as a momentary lapse and carry on being a non-smoker.
Just make sure you arent anywhere near smokes and dont have any available for the next day or two!

Dude i don't smoke because i enjoy it, i hate it with a passion but if i stop i turn into a monster and i have tried the nicorette thing but there is nothing on the market that can replicate the 7 odd seconds uptake that a smoke gives you.

I smoke because i am addicted to nicotine, i have new a appreciation for meth and heroine addicts because they say those are about as addictive as smoking so how on earth those people manage to quit is beyond me. Luckily nicotine doesn't really mess with your mind so being addicted is not so bad but heroine addiction if it is as bad nicotine must be horrific

Don't beat yourself up over it. I found that was the worst for me. Just look forward.

The problem is that I am having a really hard time with the fiancée and I have quite a bit of work load stress so not in a good place at the moment. But will follow your advice and try to look forward.

Yeah you have to choose an appropriate time to quit.

It wreaked a little havoc on my relationship because I went through a bit of a personality change, and there was a lot happening at the time.

Well everything was going great, I am by nature quite laid back and chill (I use smokes when I get bleak). Well I guess quitting smoking is a good tester for relationship strength

It destroyed my relationship to the point of no return.

The thing is some people find it easy to quit and other people get angry and become totally different. Sadly i am not in the find it easy group :(

You sound like you are in the exact same boat as me. Relationship issues + work stress = not a good to quit. I also have 2 small kids which is very trying and amplifies the stress.

16 days. Cold turkey.

Feel like I have it semi under control as I'm not getting strong urges anymore. Have had a few hiccups. Couple of drags when I was drunk last Friday night. Then drinking a beer in the smoker's box at the Keg at Jo'burg airport (now there's a place to go if you are looking for an extra reason to quit!) I had a few drags again. Thought "WTF, I'm breathing smoke anyway."

Feel good that I have showed my addiction whose boss (for now) and my throat, sinuses and chest feel normal.

Great stuff Londo. Your bank account, sense of taste and odour will thank you as well :D

I gave up sometime in August, don't really care how many days ago, but at the moment I have more money available to me now than I did in previous months.

Don't know what to do with the extra money :o

Thinking about buying more shares :D Just waiting till the 25th before I do something. Just in case

I'm on about 5/6 months now, kinda lost track after the first couple months. You should take note of all those times that you automatically light up. Then look at ways of avoiding or being aware that you are in that situation. Like I drive a lot so I light up as soon as I get out of town. Since I was aware of that, I knew that the psychological and physical urge to light up would be strongest at that time. So I was able to say to myself, I'll be at my destination in 2hours...eventually, it subsides. The one situation that I have not been able to remove those urges is when I drink. But its weird, when I start drinking, its really strong...when I'm legless, there is no urge.
