Ah, but then there's New Mexico. No helmet law! Spectacular country. Big sky. Made for bikes.

I'm stressing gents. I might be moving to the US of A soon and lane splitting is illegalI'll definitely get a bike but it will have to be relegated to a weekend toy. No point in commuting on a bike if you can't split...and it's my favourite thing. I love going to work because I get to ride.
Legal in California, nowhere else. Silly governors keep vetoing the efforts. Bikes (the one I'm after anyway) also seem to be way more expensive second hand, it was actually a big factor when I was deciding if I would go over for a year or two

Most idiotic law ever. I will never ride without a helmet. I have seen people at rallies dying just because they popped a wheelie and flipped. Had they put on a helmet their wife and kids would not be standing over them crying...
I dont think we need to be taking advice from someone with a 2mil house and 2 nearly paid off cars
Cracks me up everytime though seeing those guys on the freeways in the US. Last year on a particulary hot day in CT a family of 4 was out on their 2 bikes... Nobody was wearing anything but a helmet, t-short and shorts. Cringe worthy stuffI might be called a sissy, but even the 1.5km trip from work to visit my parents I'll put on every single bit of gear I've got. Rather a sissy than in the hospital I say

There's no law forbidding helmets! It's not a law. It's the absence of a law. People are entirely free to wear helmets, and no-one will stop them. Most idiotic law ever.

Comments section is gold as alwaysMy opinion is that it is beneficial for everyone in terms of traffic, plus it's safer for the rider. Just stay out of the yellow lane
It's for emergencies, not bulletting past traffic
AT you better be joining us on the ride in December!
What ride and what are the dates?
December = school holidays = out of town

ATGATT for me. I work about 2km away from home and gear up fully each trip.
I've tripped on a road while running and have seen the damage.
