100% ! I'm getting half way now on my Arai TX4.... replacement cost is scary! I might look at the BMW GS Helmet next. Another thing that concerns me with these gadgets in helmets, how to they affect the shell strength and the protective inner layer. After watching Arai's Tech Talk, I wouldn't want a helmet with a sun visor or no breakaway bits ever again!

What's wrong with the sun visor? A brief investigation doesn't show it having much influence on a helmets impact capability, is there some other issue?

Oh just for reference, my jacket I've had for 4 years now, should last another 4 easy (just had the main zip replaced). Ventilation is about as it gets without going full mesh. And if you are feeling brave you can take the arms off completely.

Also check what protection inserts comes with the jacket, some skimp big time on the back protector and quite a few are missing the shoulders iirc

thanks Archer - I've got a Tourmaster Transition series 2 Jacket at the moment - have had it for 6 years and it's starting to look a bit scrappy, but still fully functional - I get hot very easily and even with all the vents open in summer, I still suffer heat and often just ride without the jacket (which is stupid)

As cool as smart helmets are, I wouldn't get one... Simply because after 5 years you've got to repeat the whole exercise and chuck away lots of (probably) still working items like the screen, speakers, CPU, etc. This stuff needs to be modular, let me choose my helmet and integrate this system aftermarket

Exactly why I'm waiting for Sena as I'm sure it will amount to being "bolt-on" stuff much like the BMW units are.

But I don't really care so much for all the Smart nonsense, I just want Noise Cancelling and no more ear plugs.

My TX4 helmet isn't the best either for being quiet inside... I have it when I get onto a freeway and realize I forgot my earplugs .... I use a Sena S20, even that is hard to hear over 100km/h. I want to get a pair of custom ear moulded plugs with speaker inside... go for about R2500....

At the moment a 13+ year old Berik Leather jacket.

But will probably get this at some point.

Depending how the pocket situation is. That's what I hate most about my summer jacket now compared to my winter one.

Just taking the lining out isn't good enough though.

that looks nice - do you know if it has BMW logos on it? I ride a KTM and prefer non-bike-branded if possible

EDIT: just googled and seems like it only has the logo on the buttons, so that's fine - will go check it as well - Thanks!

Yeah they are get low key with their branding on stuff and unlike most branded clothing it’s actually very good kit, but just a rebrand of some Fong Kong thing.

Yeah my Chinese Bluetooth headset isn’t great but I would rather wait for the Sena helmet than spend R3500+ now only to have to replace helmet anyway.

They are taking their bloody time though.

The price is TBD at this time and the Sena Smart Helmet is planned for a Spring 2016 delivery.
lol

BMW logos on all their gear are significantly smaller than most of the gear companies, no giant BMW across your back like ASSAULT for instance. Pricey gear but it works.

Being 6'5" tall... my GS looks bloody small under me . BTW that's yesterday crossing the river into St Lucia. Wifey on pillion.

So I got 19,000km out of my rear Pilot Road 4 and the front seems like it will go another 10,000km without any hassle at all.

Pretty phenomenal for a 1170cc 125 Nm / 125 hp bruiser.

Could have done more I'm sure but it would hit that grey area where the insurance might give me a hard time if something were to happen.

It does look lovely. How hardcore are your off-road adventures? Would something like a KLR 650 suit? Bigger obviously, but not a 1200.

No my offroad adventures are near zero.

As in completely involuntary and when having no other option with a road bike.

Call me a snob but a KLR is just not for me which is why this baby GS might work. Or a second hand 1200.

I've obviously messed around with scramblers and crap on the farm and such but I've never done a long distance hardware offroad ride as I do with road bikes.
