I remember the Beetle-like sounds at idle - I thought it sounded awesome though, like a really angry Harley :D

It doesn't sound too bad to work on, considering it's a Harley mill shoehorned into a SBK frame. I suppose the 'unreliability' stems from the fact that you see very few of them on the roads but they are a niche market I suppose. Funny that you had bad luck with your Triumph. Which one did you have? I see plenty of Tiger's here in PE, but not so much the Speed/Street triple or the Daytona's. That said I am not really up to speed with bikes anymore - imagine my shock when I heard BMW was releasing a 310!

Sorry for your bad luck Archer. Hope the little tyke feels better soon! At least we are heading into summer now so it's the ideal weather to stretch the legs a little bit

So the tentative date of the 15th have moved to the 19th of october.

Fukksakes, I'll have to take a beginner's course in riding a bike again by the time I get it back :(

I got some feedback yesterday.
my crank shaft finally arrived from Japan.

so mesurments needs to be taken, and then bearings need to be ordered.
chances are the bearings will need to come from Japan as well. but at least we have some forward momentum.

at this rate, my bike will be up and running again in November.

Thats good news man - it's been a long wait for you

I might have missed it but - what happened? Glad it's coming together though!

Also congrats, I think, to spiderz...you upgrading?

big end bearing went scratching the cylinders, and causing the crank to break due to not having a bearing.

but I have been struggling to get parts for a very very long time, until Skeptic sent me to a mechanic that could actually 100% identify everything that will need to be fixed.

as none of the other people I took it too even wanted to open it up to to the age, and scarcity of the bike. (1997 Yamaha Virago 535)

That's bad luck man. How many km on the bike when it happened?

Yeah it's not a very common model so I can understand your frustration. Glad you have a decent mechie on your side though!

Only a 134000 odd were ever made and the unreliable comments stem from people thinking Harleys are unreliable while actually knowing very little to nothing about them.

It's ultimately just a Harley block. It's been bored and stroked and funnily enough the 1000cc and 1200cc both use the same block just setup differently. Fuel Injection was all their own as well as most other parts.

Yeah look it's not the norm. Usually Triumph has electric/electronic issues not mechanical ones. Was a 2014 Street Triple R 675. The suspected logic is that the oil restrictor failed and means there wasn't enough oil going into the motor. So it threw a big end bearing and basically ****ed everything else up with it.

What is irritating about it is that at 30,000km service I told them something was very wrong with the bike and they pretty much ignored me. Then at 32,000km odd the oil light came on a flicker and they still ignored me saying it's just a sensor. By 33,000km when the sensor didn't fix it they pulled the sump off and there was copper everywhere.

More frustrating is that it was then out of warranty (even though my original complaints were in warranty) and after a lot of back and forth Triumph came to the party (lol) with parts as goodwill claim and the dealership did some of the labour free but it still cost me R5500.

On the contrary with BMW I complained about my Quickshifter being sticky and they booked the bike in for three days upon a mention of it and gave me a courtesy bike. When picking it up and asking what the problem was they told me they just replaced it. R6500 item and no questions asked.

Jirre that is just shocking.

Many years ago I knew the owner of a bike shop that sold some grey/parallel imports. If there was any warranty issue or special part requirements it was delivered to the shop in like 5 days.

It's shocking that a national retailer like Honda can't manage the same.

68K KM on the clock.

and its been a struggle, but finally there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Interesting choice. Do a build-log of the rebuild :D

Got 2 of the Motomia scooters, going to replace everything new on the one scooter, and the best of the leftover part on hte other one, so they are both in running condition.
Need to remember to take photos.

Photos of the tear-down, clean up and reassembly. And the obligatory post-build drag-race, naturally.

You telling me. From what I heard from you guys BMW is the absolute best when it comes to service, which is very important in my life with anything I pay people for... As much as I've always had a Honda, this will be my last

I had a MB5 50cc, a RVF400, a CB750F, and now the the NC750X DCT.... Honda - RIP :(

Have you escalated this to Honda HQ? I'm sure this isn't the norm in terms of service. I'm getting worried, mine's due for a service next month!
