Not if you use the right camera, i use a garmin Virb which is bullet shaped, no drag at all, in fact i can't feel the camera is there at all.

Yeah that's why I said earlier the GoPro is terrible for helmets and I was specifically referring to it in that context.

Sony Actioncam is also somewhat bullet shaped.

Probably the best options for helmets would be that one built into the Sena headsets.

I actually just realised that I have the perfect spot on the chin under the vent, I just never thought to use it. I only used it on the helmet about 3 times.

Do you see anything at all with it so far back?

The problem with the top mount is also that it’s super slow and misses a lot of your side to side “as you look movement”.

The chin is more directly what you actually see.

But that pic illustrates exactly what I deeply dislike about GoPro. They design a sexy small camera like that...and then the mount that goes with it is as big as the camera with unnecessary attachment.

A mount that lets you slot that thing in straight against the chin with no elevation is what you really want so it’s flush with the helmet as if it was bought like that.

He might actually be on to something, rudimentary stabilization on the y-axis! I'm going to give it a shot, but yeah it still looks awkward perched up there.

I'm not a vloger and I hardly use it so I don't mind how it looks, iv had the GoPro long before I started riding. I don't feel any drag and and there is no obstruction of the view so it gets the job done. But I get your point with the side to side movement, that is true.

I would have shared a clip to show you how it looks, but as I understand from previous posts, one cannot post a video clip directly to the thread, I'll have to publish on you tube and post the link, so I may not get around to doing that anytime soon.

Here's a screenshot for now.

No need.

I’ve used the camera there before and just found the view was a bit pointless for action shots or even just catching cool stuff I’ve seen after the fact for not looking where I’m looking as directly.

But if you want it purely for after the fact evidence capture then that’s fine.

I’m also not interested in vlogging as such but do want to capture the odd cool event or track day and haven’t found the right angle just yet.

So the parentals and I decided to and take the Triumph Tiger 800cc for a test ride this Saturday passed. Both my mom and dad are retiring within the next 6 months and they want something that they can take on a gravel road without sweating bullets. Apparently the GSX-R750 and Blackbird don't like gravel roads. Who knew...

Must say, I was mildly but pleasantly surprised by the Tiger- I'm not used to dual purpose/adventure bikes at all but I must say I liked it.
Also, it's a tall bike. I'm not the shortest, at 1.85~ish, and I couldn't comfortably put both feet flat on the ground. I expected that of a 1200 or such, not from the middle weight class.

Another thing I saw was the Kawaski Z900RS - I'm not one for older or in this case retro bikes... But I would buy that thing in a heartbeat based on looks alone. Much wow!

Didn't take any pics though- my bad :(

Quick suggestions on a commute/touring bike? Obviously there is the Honda 750, and I was thinking the F800ST could be decent too. But was else is out there?

Been riding my Honda NC750xDCT for 3 yrs now, automatic.
100km a day averaging 35km/l at a steady 120km/h.
This drops to 26km/l when going home in the South Easter.
97 000km on the clock now, still the best commuter all round.
But I would prefer a BMW or KTM for weekend fun.
My NC750 has no character, it is what it was made for. Commuting

The Tiger & BMW 800GS are quite tall. The R1200GS hast two seating positions and is a way more comfortable ride. The 800GS you can get the comfort seat which is not bad. Also you can get lowered sea that have less padding for shorter people.

The low range on the Tiger 800 is not really suited for pillion off road riding, but its on road is really good. The 3 cylinder engine sounds great too. Not sure with backup service though after the change in the Triumph ownership in S.A.

Personally I have had both 800GSA and 1200GSA (LC). The 800 has the tank under the seat, which does make standing difficult for the pillion due to the width (GSA especially). The 1200GSA is great, but bulky, not that you really feel it while riding. Its super easy to move around.

Not familiar with the Tiger and its problems that crop up, but with the 800GS you do need to keep an eye on the steering yolk bearings and with the 1200GS (LC), you must follow the BMW recommended driveshaft service to prevent rust.

If I was to look at a brand new GS, I will first check out the 850 when it becomes available. So far it looks impressive. But if you have the money and are going to be 2 up for long distances, R1200 all the way (GS or GSA, whichever you pickup at a good price). Then also make sure it has quick shift assist ;-)

What is your time frame and budget? You could look at a 790 duke or wait for the 790 Adventure :) The duke seems to be a blast. Or maybe the 701 Vitpilen? Nobody said commuting needs to be boring..

I use the same cam on a chest mount , PITA to put on but the video is good and stable .

Jeez. Saw the quintessential dozy cager yesterday... the kind of guy who kills people.
Riding up Conrad drive, left hand lane, behind this guy. I see a slow moving truck ahead so I move into the right lane and accelerate to pass them both. As I draw up level with the car's back bumper, this guy also sees the truck and accelerates and swerves out into the right lane. I saw him coming so I slowed down, thinking wtf, moron.
However, he doesn't complete his swerve. Straddles the two lanes, continues accelerating until he hits the truck. Took off his passenger mirror, scratches the side of the car... just carries on driving as if nothing happened...

wtaf.
