Don't you have some other high mileage cars? The same applies to bikes, the cutoff mileage is just different. Sport bikes would be low but the thing about most dual sports is that the bike is tuned more for torque than power, and rev quite low (for a bike). So 100,000km is not that bad. I know of at least 4 bikes in WC over 200,000km (1150, 2x1200, 650)

I'd still opt for the NC though which I'm sure you'll find at 20-30,000km

There's two I've found on autotrader so far, but I'm going to go to a few dealers in the area tomorrow to shop around.

I do have a high mileage car (275k km) but, it's engineered like a brick ****house ;)

My fears around the 1100GS stem from the numerous stories on the net around the driveshaft u joints and the final drive bearings and splines. If it hasn't been maintained nicely it IS going to fail...

Howsit okes!

I'm desperately looking for one of those brackets that you attach to your handlebars and mount your cellphone on.

Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbq-broqIzs

Anyone know where I can get it locally?

Navworld in Pretoria has stock. Not if the rubber tether though. Think it was about R900 but may have been only the cell holder and not also the handlebar mount part

Ya, dat final drive is scary. But I've heard very few stories about it on the 1200's.

Note that if ABS is important to you, I believe the manual NC750 does not have it (the manual NC700 definitely did not)

It does afaik

"Both NC750 versions come with a 41mm telescopic fork and Pro-Link swingarm with monoshock damper. They also come with a single 320mm disc, two-piston caliper brake out front and a 240mm disc with single-piston caliper out back. Brake levers are six-position adjustable and two-channel ABS comes standard on both NC750s as well."

The 1200's actually have a maintenance interval for the shaft now, while previously it was a (crazy) "lifetime" no maintenance item.

@Sinbad what you spend now on the NC you'll make back in fuel savings. That thing gets <4 l/100 even if you ride the crap out of it.

Had a look at a couple of ncs this morning. Archer you were right, no abs on the manuals. One was sold, the other just didn't look well looked after.
I think I'm going to try to find the right dct one... abs + lazy...

Yeah even if I didn't want DCT I would deal with it just to have the ABS.

I'm leaning more and more this way...

So what, keep an eye on autotrader? How would you guys suggest I find the right one?

It gets slightly better fuel economy but nothing that will make 15k back.

As far as I know there aren't any major issues with the 700 that were revised or anything on the 750.

So I would probably say no. Doubtful it will make a 15k difference at resale either.

Price on that seems high though for the mileage and age. But then all prices are bonkers now and I have no clue any more. I swear that bike sold for about the brand new.

****

The two NC's had a really good time on the run yesterday. Great middle ground bike.

k cool, gonna contact those guys. thanks :)

autotrader is pretty much dealerships (very few private sales). OLX has a bigger variety of private sales than gumtree (stupid BOTS that just keep re-posting the same stuff all day). Broaden your search to Free State and Mpumalanga - some decent bargains there
- join the following FB groups as well - there are some nice bikes going for decent prices:
Bike & accessories for sale - sa
bikes for sale sa
bike for sale south africa
Wheel & Deal BMW with Glen

Thanks :)
I think a dealer is a better bet for me, as I also need to buy ATG and want to bundle it into the finance... Can't really afford to drop 10k off the bat.
