I would have opened the engine myself.
It's not that difficult to strip and reasemble an engine.
If engineering work is needed (skimming of head, cut of crank), you just drop it off for there.

Who will do the engineering work?
Now I'm actually wondering if my local engineering place actually works on bike engine's too ...
Not really in your area, but when I worked at an American/Muscle car dealership, we'd get engine work done at Cylinder Head Exchange in Joburg. I think there's one in PTA too.

I can do simple things like changing oil, or brakes.

And the other day I worked on the carb, opened that up and cleaned it.

However getting into the engine is just that little bit more than I am comfortable handling, I am not afraid to admit that I know just enough to be dangerous. I would rather pay someone who has all the correct tools and more knowledge then I do.

And I worked for a mechanic for a year, that is how I know that I am not good enough to fix this myself

And then there's the bike I decided on.

Took me a while to decide between the MT-07 and this, simply due to year and mileage. Both are going for ~R70k, however, the MT-07 is 2015, 8000km.

This is 2013, 31,000km.

Finance is pre-approved, just need to renew my license and away we go.

That RNineT is a really pretty bike

It's beautiful.
and the Honda?

The Z750? Was out on a test ride. Honestly, the thing is the Z750 is so bland seeming. Kind of the same with the MT-07 and the ER-6N honestly, they just look like bikes, not particularly stand-out in any way. Which is fine, and as a commuter it's fine, but I do like the look and sound of the Triumph. Has a bit more presence and class.

so this weekend I tried to open up my bike and have a look at exactly what is wrong.

then I noticed that the previous mechanic never opened up the bike at all. like no doubt about it.

so I need a reliable, independent mechanic in PTA that I can trust. so preferably someone you guys can vouch for personally.

it took me two days to type this out because I am still so angry at the previous guys.

how do you tell me my CAM shaft is completely broken, but you have never opened it up?

Just 30 mins from PTA to Edenvale with it on the back of a bakkie. And then you have a menagerie of bike shops. I can personally vouch for Flying Spanner in Eastleigh. The owner is the mechanic. Was the head mech at Triumph Edenvale and is the dogs bollocks when it comes to straight shooting no BS. Quoted me a few times for work and then invoiced less on completion because parts were still fine for another couple thousand km. Rare these days.

the problem is the 30 min out of the way, and 30 min back.

so right now if I want to get my bike to a shop I need my father in law. who works on the airport in PTA North.
so that means half an hour drive from his work to my house, get the bike (if I am home) then half an hour to Edenvale, then half an hour back for me, then half an hour back to his work.

where if the bike was in PTA, either close to my work, or close to his work, it can make a massive difference, and will give me a more hands on approach to getting my bike fixed.

I honestly think part of the reason I got skrewed over by the previous guys (that I would have vouched for myself before saturday) is how far away I am now.

Very very nice dude.

Love it in that colour too.

That Triple has a lot of character and is probably the best engine I've ridden in that class....which is why I owned one.

It's the perfect blend of a Twin and an inline 4 with a unique sound on top.

Just change out the air filter and pipes to get rid of the vacuum cleaner.

Oh I see it has Arrows on already. Great deal in that case. Those are like 15k now.

Yup, love the colour, initially was worried about the purple but it looks great in person.

And the arrows give it a good sound, I actually have a video with the engine sound, but couldn't upload it here.

I guess. Sorry cant help with a reputable PTA mech.

its ok, I understand. I will google a bit. seems like all the PTA bikers go to a brand accredited dealer.
and due to the age of my bike that would not work. I need a reputable independent who would be willing to add grey imports or after market parts.

this is a fix, not a restoration.
