I commute every day and try to stick to the guidelines of lane splitting closely. I do tend to split faster, but that is usually passing someone in the fast land who is drive at 100km and there is a distance of 100m or more between him/her and the car in front. There are morning where i am splitting at around 60-80km/h (depending the the actual speed of the cars around me - usually stick to the 20km faster than traffic flow) but the moment i see cars slowing down, i start reducing my speed as well.

I actually feel like riding after watching YouTube crash/fails. Which I watch quite often.

Definitely won't get into that habbit. At this point riding is a leisure activity, so I rarely ride in traffic.

Hahaha, I know that sense, in my car anyway I usually predict lane changes some time before they happen.
I'd say the majority of the crashes are from the bikers being idiots, for example driving down the middle of a road or on the verge. So many people getting smacked when someone pulls out, or just riding far too fast for the conditions.

So mostly it's a reminder to keep the speed down when you can't see everything in front of you etc.

P. S. There is no way I would ever walk, drive, be driven, or stand anywhere near a road anywhere in Russia. Trucks seem to have a habit of teleporting into oncoming traffic.

I rode an older XRV750 Africa Twin years back. Super comfy bike but was quite heavy on fuel - yet it had so much charm. I would love to own one one day :)

So when splitting in bumper to bumper traffic, where do you guys look to get a sense if somebody is planning on changing lanes, i found myself looking at rear view mirrors and not side view mirrors most of the time.

Tyres, indicators, gaps, mirrors (rear and side), drivers head/hands and spidey sense (created via time and experience). Typically I use peripheral vision to notice the changes in all these things.

R20k for a gearbox? WTF.

Or is this like the NC series where the normal one doesn't have ABS and all the fidly bits?

Base model is without ABS and traction control. Then there is (or at least was iirc) a manual version with that stuff. Then the DCT with everything

VW charges a premium for DSG so I can see why Honda would follow suite with their bikes

Ok this bugs me probably a lot more than it should, but this oke in the Discovery had been driving the entire way down the R27 practically on the centre line. Check all the space to his right. Every bike that came up behind had to wait until he overtook a car in the left lane for there to be gap to go through, or risk squeezing through between him and the car/truck in the left lane. Is it really so hard to keep to the right of the lane (or the centre at very worst)?

I assume that pic is well after because how can a bike not get past that?

Bikers in good old South Africa should be confined to 125cc bikes and mandatory training for the first two years since getting a learners.

Last night this dumbass in Douglasdale tried to pass me on the left at a right hand turn robot. The only reason I know he was there is because once I completed my turn the SO told me about him.

Seriously, what kind of stupid does one have to be to think "hmm, it's the dead of night and the safest thing I can do is position myself in this car's blindspot and take my chances between the car and the curb".

They dish out licenses to anybody these days.
