Look imho the best commuter will HAVE to be that 690 Duke. I have the 690 Enduro (143kg) and the thing should be illegal in traffic.
However they are singles. There is no....finnese. They are Braaaaaaap, torque and vibey. But you are buying a motorcycle right? If you don't really like that they will never do for you although lighter you wont get.

The SV650 has the lovely smooth 650 Vtwin.
 
yeah I'm leaning that way. let's see. perhaps longevity and comfort wise a twin is the way. a single tho is the grin factor. let's see. I'll be riding the 390 and 690 next week.

as much as I can reason it all out, in the end it's an ego, emotional purchase.

ER6 N or ER6F....neither is what I would call even remotely race oriented. (Saw your other post, same thing as the Versys just not offroad).

The Americans call the ER6F a Ninja but it's still nowhere close and maybe a Sports Tourer would apply.

Can't think of any of them being over 200kg but that depends on wet or dry.

Wish I had more money to have some of the bikes spoken of in here. Love my er6 but would love to have a few different bikes.

oh ok. look i don't know the bikes. just googled it and that was my first observation. sat on the z650. it's naked!!!!

From what I read my Er6-F is 211kg wet. Though at 1.69m and 60kg I must say I don't feel the weight. Bike is "sporty" but definitely not a sports bike.

I actually want to try a lighter bike and see, maybe I am feeling the weight I busy don't know what light is.

Is there something wrong with naked? Maybe they call it the Z650 these days.

It's a 650cc parallel Twin.

Okay I actually don't know what Kawasaki is doing...they seem near identical to me yet different...but not different enough to warranty two models.

It's certainly not what I would call a heavy bike.

nothing wrong with naked, first thought is youre rather exposed. although I've never ridden one. maybe that's an option. same parallel twin motor so same linear power band. also commuting I think I would like room for a top box to house my rain gear, boots and other odds.

It used to be voted as the best commuter around and won fuel economy runs year after year until the NC700 came along.

I think the BMW G310 is the only small bike to offer a Topbox option.

Your 660 is naked isn't it? I've never found that they are any more or less exposed really and that's after owning a Buell and Street Triple.

Now my half-naked BMW has the advantage of a big windscreen which still doesn't do much against weather.

As far as I understand it, the ER name is no more, for the new lineup the naked is the z650 and the full faired is the ninja 650.

what's your budget... and are you looking for new or 2nd hand?

I have the 690 Duke and it is pure fun and adrenalin but have you considered a Yamaha MT07 .
