Has anyone trailered a bike from Pretoria or Jozi to Cape Town recently? What does it cost?

Consider the train as an option, it might be cheaper, I paid 2300 for a car from durban to jhb by train, that was about three years ago. I can't coment on bike prices.

I live in Centurion and I bought a bike from a seller in Cape Town in June of last year. He made use of a company named Bike Trans SA to transport the bike to me. They transport both ways. Price was R2350 for a BMW 650GS. We were both happy with their service.

Why not fly up and ride it down? Nice bonding experience with the new bike.
^^this
Thursday afternoon flight 1,300 rhondts (less if you have vitality)

Ride back via Clarens, Aliwal North, Graaf-Reinet, Oudtshoorn and then down the R62 to Montague
[Kulula was advertising at under 500 bucks for a CT-JHB one way recently]
Hell ....how luss am I for a ride like that now

You guys are selling me on this idea. However, What if it was hypothetically a GSXR 750?

As always, thanks for all the feedback.

I had a bit of a sobering moment recently - I doubt I'll ever ride visor up again unless there's a long gap between me and the car in front. I had a stone hit me square in the visor, chipping it just to the bottom right of my right eye. Eish.

So many stupid low-speed limits to break through :(

Eish, fun times, good thing you had it down!

Thanks for sharing, that was enough to convince me. I ride visor up all the time.

Took my bike for the first time on the open road yesterday to work... decided to take a gravel road back. +- 70km
I'm sure i've got a few skid marks in my undies now from where the gravel turns to sand and the bike's stability assist had to kick in... starting to really enjoy my f700gs
Hit an invisible speed bump as well, the bike brushed it off as if it was nothing.

Switch the TC off is you hit gravel. Or at least the ABS - I don't think the F700 has enduro mode?
ABS and TC will wreck you on gravel dude. Switch it off and practice stopping whilst locking up first the back, then the front, then both.

Do it controlled so you don't get surprised when you have to do it for real.

Yeah, it has enduro, but I had it on rain and comfort... thought it would be the most appropriate settings. Thanks.

For a guy that doesn't have too much offroad (on two wheels at least) experience, I have to say the Enduro mode has saved me and the bike a couple of times! Steps in just before things get too hairy and helps to stop too many skipped heartbeats. Takes a bit of getting used to but makes the overall experience on a rather big bike quite fun!

In that case, enduro works well. The ABS settings changes to let you slide it a bit.

Rain works well for the power curve, making it much gentler, but the ABS is even more sensitive - which is bad. ABS and gravel don't mix. :)

Where are you based? Gauteng? Go do the ADA off road training, it'll make you much more comfortable on any form of dirt.

NW, will take it into consideration. Offroad is very different, but i`m glad I got a dualsport... better scenery and fewer cars. Might just have to get more appropriate tires.
