MyBroadband User Survey

Is Telkom doing anything during this testing period to boost their results?! My upload speeds haven't been this high, getting 30+KB/s upload speeds. Usually I'm hitting 100kbps max, and this was after the announcement that Telkom was now enforcing the upload speeds.
 
Has anyone else noticed that the Telkom Speed Test is no longer available? Just got home, checked my bw usage so far and tried to check the speed I'm currently getting on Telkom's site and it's been replaced with a new look, info about checking your exchange, DSL384 / DSL512 premium package info, and promoting TelkomInternet ... clicking on Speed Test just loops you back to the same page.

Seems as if Telkom does not want us knowing what thye're doing to the speed on our lines anymore :mad:

I'm pretty darned sure this is more grounds to complain to ICASA - how else can we check what we consumers are getting what we're paying for if Telkom has now removed the speed test from their own site? Is Telkom going to accept speed results from other sites now or what?

Yeah, noticed it wasn't working earlier - just loops back to the same page.
 
Maby they are just updating it to display speeds over 4mb/s?

But strange that they would take it down.. so what now RPM, better replace it with another SAIX based speed test, or use gamco..

Did the test a day or so ago and it worked. Now thy are trying to advertise their @#$@% service.

Ya, the buggers are obvously getting a high traffic flow on their speed test, so they probably thought they would replace it with some advertising, with some of their DSL products
 
Telkom Speed Test is Back

Just got home, checked monthly bw used so far and tried the Telkom Speed Test. It's back - the old one - but in the 'new look' site format. Guess they're still working on updating the rating for 4mbps but at least we can obtain the speed data again.

What's with all the multithreaded hype? You can get the same download speeds on a single threaded application.

Umm, then Cell-C/Virgin isn't broadband either. Vodacom GPRS should be included so that people can see how useless it is and will know what will be available to them when 3G is not available.
 
Telkom speed test down again

The Telkom speed test is down again. Also try replacing speed.html with anything and instead of a 404 you get the advertising.
 
Ok, I don't get it. Why ask how important the cap/usage limit is with the Cell-C/Virgin survey when there is no cap? :confused:
 
I want to urge everyone to please make sure they have Cell-C selected as the network operator when conducting the Cell-C/Virgin speed tests. I do not want any Vodacom GPRS- results included in the tests.

You're missing the point. We're talking multi-threaded downloads - not applications. Splitting a download into chunks, and downloading those chunks simultaneously - and completing the download a lot faster. It's how most download managers work - and also the best way to get top speed on some connections.
 
I have not been able to complete the tcp/IQ test once on my Virgin connection, anyone else experiencing this?

I have looked in the tcp/IQ logs and the program seems to download pages from various web servers, every request times out after about 45 seconds. I can however, download those pages using FireFox.

I thought it might be a firewall issue, but tcp/IQ runs fine with my MTN connection.

Ok, you're talking about segmented or accelerated downloads. Yes I am familiar with them, but they seem to make more of a difference on high latency connections and not so much with low latency. The term multithreaded inherently refers to applications.
 
Completed the tests ;) sorry for taking so long!
 
For some reason speedtest doesn't want to work today even after reinstalling and uninstalling flash multiple times. Now it just gives me the update message and not even a map. Better use sites with java applets next time.

Guess I'll just have to stick with the results I got last night/morning. Could have sworn though that I get better speeds during the day/evening.
