Naks' Solar System:

Yep, can try that. That's me up at 6am again tomorrow then

but I don't think it will trip if I do that, since nothing happens when I manually switch the grid off & on
look for dodgy extension leads we had one that we decommissioned cause of this too

It might even be something on your essentials side. Leave the grid main switched on and just switch everything else off on the db then start bringing them up...

Tried that just now, once with the inverter still connected, and once with the inverter disconnected.

No tripping whatsoever...
At this point I would just get a guy

Before he comes just get a new EL switch to install as mentioned above. Who knows...

Maybe you get an overvoltage surge when the power comes back after LS. And that somehow trips the EL. I donno. Grabbing at straws here.

@Naks I could be wrong, Should the earth leakage have both Live and neutral connected up there on the second row there? Not sure if that Grids side or inverter side but it looks like the neutral wire is interacting with Grid side. Perhaps a more advanced sparky can help. But then again you switch of manually and there isnt a fault, only during loadshedding it faults

No, and that's the really frustrating part, because we can't test what's causing the tripping.

If I switch the Mains off and on, even repeatedly, there is no interruption of power.
First up, change the RCD.
Second I would install and over /undervoltage protecter, one where you can set a time delay between eskom coming back on and power being restored to the DB/inverter.

I'm late to the party, and this might have been covered already, but are you sure your Earth/neutral bond is working correctly?

#2 was also a solution proposed by the electrician, I think we'll be throwing everything & the kitchen sink at it.

someone else pointed out to me that the CoC circuit diagram shows the surge protector before the RCD, but on the DB it's after the RCD, so that's also something we need to look into.

Could be the surge , as it could dump current from live to earth.
Maybe 2 things can try , move it to before rcd , or temporary add breaker to isolate it

Hmm loadsheding back , if you brave try disconnecting surge protectors earth terminal

So... I found the source of my Earth trips completely randomly: it is my AVR

I was testing stuff during loadshedding, and switching on my AV setup (TV, Oppo, AVR) tripped the earth.

I unplugged the TV, no trip. Ditto for the Oppo. Trips on AVR

Switched out the Ellies Surge multiplug, plug in the TV, no trip. Ditto for the Oppo. Trips on AVR

But now I can't replicate it, and now power just came back on and Earth did not trip.
