look for dodgy extension leads we had one that we decommissioned cause of this tooYep, can try that. That's me up at 6am again tomorrow then
but I don't think it will trip if I do that, since nothing happens when I manually switch the grid off & on

It might even be something on your essentials side. Leave the grid main switched on and just switch everything else off on the db then start bringing them up...Yep, can try that. That's me up at 6am again tomorrow then

At this point I would just get a guyTried that just now, once with the inverter still connected, and once with the inverter disconnected.
No tripping whatsoever...
No, and that's the really frustrating part, because we can't test what's causing the tripping.Does the same happen if you switch your mains off and on?
First up, change the RCD.No, and that's the really frustrating part, because we can't test what's causing the tripping.
If I switch the Mains off and on, even repeatedly, there is no interruption of power.
I'm late to the party, and this might have been covered already, but are you sure your Earth/neutral bond is working correctly? No, and that's the really frustrating part, because we can't test what's causing the tripping.

Second I would install and over /undervoltage protecter, one where you can set a time delay between eskom coming back on and power being restored to the DB/inverter.
Could be the surge , as it could dump current from live to earth.#2 was also a solution proposed by the electrician, I think we'll be throwing everything & the kitchen sink at it.
someone else pointed out to me that the CoC circuit diagram shows the surge protector before the RCD, but on the DB it's after the RCD, so that's also something we need to look into.
Hmm loadsheding back , if you brave try disconnecting surge protectors earth terminal#2 was also a solution proposed by the electrician, I think we'll be throwing everything & the kitchen sink at it.

So... I found the source of my Earth trips completely randomly: it is my AVR
I was testing stuff during loadshedding, and switching on my AV setup (TV, Oppo, AVR) tripped the earth.
I unplugged the TV, no trip. Ditto for the Oppo. Trips on AVR
Switched out the Ellies Surge multiplug, plug in the TV, no trip. Ditto for the Oppo. Trips on AVR
But now I can't replicate it, and now power just came back on and Earth did not trip.
