Name and Shame: Unauthorised Debit Orders Thread

BP Victoria Road, Southfield. April 2022

Purchased R900 petrol using a bank card. When presented, the card would not "tap" so the petrol attendant went to fetch another card machine. This worked

Got back home. An hour later, there were 11 x R350,00 debits from "BoltZA" one after another. Had to visit (Capitec Bank) and had these reversed and got a new card.

Went back to the garage and spoke to the lady. She was most annoyed and aggressive and when I said it was possible that one of her staff was engaged in fraud, walked out the office and shut the door

Went to SAPS Diep River. Absolutely clueless. Their attitude was that if I had the debits reversed, there was no theft. The detective was called and said they do not handle financial crime and he did not know who did

Fast forward July. A friend told me essentially the same story. He had 9 x R350 debits from BoltZA on his FNB card within an hour of buying petrol at this same garage. His session with SAPS was similar. The garage lady told him it was nothing to do with her, he must speak to the bank. FNB were very helpful

So he called BP and spoke to someone who said they deal with complaints

No feedback yet

Was the card always in your own hands? Was the card ever inserted into the first machine? If it goes too deep the machine is a skimmer.

Had a call from BP
They said there were no issues with this particular garage and this is the first complaint they ever had.
I referred them to the two other people who had sent emails (I was also sent a copy) detailing the exact same complaint. She had not seen these and was annoyed that I mentioned it. I also said it was annoying to be the victim of fraud, particularly at one of their retail sites. Her response was that they do not hire the staff so actually my complaint has nothing to do with BP

In the meantime, Capitec Bank advised that they had communicated with ABSA who manage this garage's POS pointing out that fraud was being perpetrated at their customers site

1Life MSS1000662 (went off this month)

Fraudulent - complained to RMB - I'm sure the newer one's will get refunded, but the older one's RMB is probably going to tell me to suck it (small <R150 charges - so I didn't pick it up for now - inContact also doesn't SMS or email you for amounts this small)...

The strange part is at some point the FNB app used to tell you that you've got a new DO and is this legit Y/N. It didn't for these....

Usual half-baked solutions that we've come to expect from the bank that was once number one many moons ago.

Only if it's debicheck are the alerts fired.

Had a R90 465,20 deposit from a FNB account on 10th January. All Capitec (my bank) could tell me at the time was that it was an FNB account

FNB themselves were not interested and hid behind POPI saying they were unable to do anything. When I suggested that FNB might have made a mistake in paying me, there was silence and the lady said there was nothing they could do

Fast forward today. FNB Fraud dept got hold of Capitec and said I had debited their clients account with R90 465,20 illegally and their attorneys had been advised

I asked the Capitec lady how it was possible for me to debit this company (a commercial letting company north of Durban) when I had never had any dealings with them. The Capitec lady said I should await the lawyers letter and they must provide proof that they had paid. She agreed that unless there was a debit order in place (and Capitec do not initiate debit orders) that it was not possible and a simple error had occurred and someone was trying to deflect blame

In the meantime, this deposit has earned R2000 interest

Had something similar happen to me. Took them a few weeks to realise the error and they just reversed the transaction.

It does not even appear on my bank statements even though I kept screenshots that I sent them when I enquired about the incorrect deposit.

Fortunately there are still a few good people that will not simply close the account and pocket the money.

Following on from this thread:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-their-responsibility?p=16565929#post16565929

I thought why not start a new thread to post information on such issues. Perhaps it will be of some use to others and/or finger companies that keep on popping up in these circles.

Please note: due to current legislation, banks and collection agencies take no responsibility and/or are not held responsible, and the companies actually issuing get on on excuses of typos etc.

Bank and/or collection agencies can be posted, but the main information required is the company initiating the transaction.
The fact that banks can sit on your money without your choice(Ok you can chose a bank, but that means little), and subtract any amount from your account without your concent, we talking about new out of the blue orders appearing out of the blue from the clouds thanks to digital, this is where the law is seriously lacking.
I certerly don't pay the banks fees to loose money like this, and then afterwards must fight it at a cost.
This is a classical case of one type of modern corruption hold on your money, its just so easy with digital.
It seems like everybody on the planet is boss of your income, except you=Wrong.

Depending what these lawyers say, I will keep any interest

A very poorly worded letter from these lawyers
Bad grammar and 3 spelling mistakes, sent to incorrect email address
No proof of payment from the payer
No instruction where to pay any refund

"I must fecs the consequences of my aktion"
and
"My letter of altimo"?

The street address of these attorneys is 111 Queen Nandi Drive in Kwamushi. Looks fake to me

After closing my RSAWeb account, they charged me 3 months later for the router I have paid separately for during the Black Friday specials. They just opened another debit order. It took another 3 months with a lot of hassles to get refunded yesterday.

Had two unauthorised debit orders from SA Business directories.
495 and 1000
Contacted investec - they immediately refunded and cancelled the debit order.
Its been a month now, but neither SA business directories, netcash(facilitated the debit order) or investec can provide me with any debit order mandate or authorization.

Weird that this is still happening becomes DebiCheck was implemented by most of the banks.

I wonder if some of the bank staff is complicit.
They will happily refund the money but wont produce any paperwork related to the transaction.

Had a few from vodacom on my Standard Bank account over the last few months. Never had a vodacom contract. Reversed 3 that were R350 each, but was hit with another one today that was R987! Jirre. Reversed and it was back in my account in 5 minutes.

what's the process to reverse?

I am having trouble with Planet Fitness. In desperation, I have tried stopping it at the bank but the numbers change every month so it cannot be. I have phoned to cancel it several times. Going to go and have it reversed (well try to).
