Name and Shame: Unauthorised Debit Orders Thread

Same scam, same date, same amount. Capitec refuses to waive the fee, and simply says that there's nothing they can do. Also, Capitec blamed me for handing over my banking details to these fraudsters.
Then move your bank account...

Had the same deduction on 18 October. I instructed the bank to stop future deductions and reverse the incident- waiting for reply.
I called 011 4831188, but was informed that the banks are giving people the wrong number- Umvuso's number is 031 110 0820. The person at 031 said they are doing the admin for Umvuso, and promised to look into the matter and call me back (which I doubt).

They won't call back. Waste of time and money if you ask me.

Would anyone be interested in a third party provider, that creates a "bank account" for you, and this is the info you share with anyone wanting your banking details. Then this provider deducts a monthly debit from your actual bank account and you can see all the details in your account? You'd pay an amount for this, but then they vet and validate the requests before it gets deducted. You'll also be able to then instruct your bank to stop any debit orders on your account, and perhaps pay this provider via credit card or similar.

Is this even viable? Is there someone with more banking knowledge that knows the viability? Banking licence required for something like this?

Debit order vetting is already done by a third party between merchants and the banks who are meant to do what you describe but fraud is rife.

Pretty sure the companies will simply ignore the penalty. Unless you can get an unauthorised debit order through on their account :-) Only way to get this resolved, is to penalise the banks themselves. I have requested detailed information regarding the offenders from Capitec (29/10/2018), and have received nothing so far.

Yoh guys I had a small heart attack now. I was just placing an order on Amazon and as I pressed the button to confirm payment, an email about this thread popped into Thunderbird. Imagine how I felt just seeing the blurb spring into view from the side of my screen "Unauthorized Debit..." o_O Man I nearly crap my pants. :crying:

Unfortunately, the banks are technically not doing anything wrong, they are acting on the instruction of third parties that manage debit order authorisations on behalf of merchants.

They cannot 'ignore' the penalty. If they cannot produce the mandate (proof of voice recording or signature) they will get fined by Pasa. Question is if they will 'feel' it - lots of people dont report it. So if more people report it then it can make a difference
