Name and Shame: Unauthorised Debit Orders Thread

Thread was last updated in June, anyone still having issues, mine disappeared the day Standarb bank closed branches and created the feature to reverse the debit orders on the app.

I have just been hit by banking fraud on capitec. 3 provinces in less than 60 minutes. Supposedly all done in a branch.

They went to a branch and paid an installment for two insurance products. Then transferred funds from my account to someone else's account. They did all of that from a branch in Zerust(North West), then Nelspruit( Mpumalanga) then Durban(KZN), in less that 60 minutes.

Mind you, this is happening on a Notice savings account.

Capitec couldn't explain it as the consultants were giving me the run around. I took every last cent i had with them to discovery.

Their investigation will take 8 working days.

I wonder how they bypassed fingerprint scanning and why they would pay your installments? I'm sure you'll get your money back.

They paid someone else's installment for a product that i dont even have. Yesterday afternoon they transferred R40K into my account.

The consultants were adamant that i made the payments as there's is no way a transaction can go off without me authorizing it. I went to the branch and there are no mandates signed on the transactions that happened in a branch.

I am worried about my salary being take on Friday though. I'll have to stay up the whole night and transfer everything before they take it.

Glad I was right about you getting your money back.

I still dont understand how banks allow this. We had this happen on our business bank account and we had to call our bank three months in a row to get it sorted

How is it possible for a bank to aprove a debit order schedule against a company without any proof of acceptance in writing or by voice acceptance over a phonecall.

But when you want to put a stop to the debit order you need to complete a bunch of forms

Debits are not processed directly with the bank.

There are debit order companies that receive the debit and pass it onto banks.

The debit order companies due diligence is up to **** and/or unscrupulous companies are passing on fraudulent authorisations.

They are trying to combat these rogue debit orders with the introduction of the DebiCheck system. You would have received emails from your bank promoting this.

How many people do you want the banks to employ to look at and compare signatures or voices? Enjoy your R1000pm cost bank account.

DebiCheck is a great idea. But the implementation is terrible. I would love to approve every debit order on my account before they can go off, but they have chosen to make it an opt in system.

Because people who load unauthorized debit orders will definitely choose to have the account holder authorise it...

Slightly disappointed with this to say the least

Think you meant to say "not have".
I feel the the same but the flipside of this argument is also true: some unscrupulous people that signed contracts will then query valid debit orders in order to catch a free ride - this will also cause problems for legitimate companies.

There needs to be a better system put in place though.

My wife just got a notification that R900+- has been deducted from Rccs bos j ??
I see many many complaints on hellopeter but know one knows why and what this is?

Probably a scam. Let het reverse the payment and force Absa to investigate and get the company doing those debit orders under investigation.
