Hi,

So an offshoot of this : https://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/943419-Need-a-cheapie-Suggestions?highlight=

But I'm now going to be selling my 86 as soon as it comes back from repairs and need something along the same wave-length(?) that has the requirements of the car I mentioned in thread above

My requirements are :
* Economy with Fuel
* Possibly Automatic
* Comfortable seats (have some back problems)
* Cheap to maintain as this will be the daily

Current front runners are a BMW 220d, Megane GT-Line and maybe a Golf.

Thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Budget?

Also, you went from Tatas and Sirions in that thread to considering a 220d. What is it you actually want? Cheap, economical, low maintenance, comfortable and sporty?

The budget car was going to be the daily driver and the 86, the weekend special. After this week though, just looking for something that will tick all the boxes.
R200-360k ish budget wise

Bolded bits are the important ones..

Go with the Megane. I test drove it and it's awesome and comes packed with tech. Will be trading mine in for one when it gets out from repairs.

Warranty and service plan runs for 5 years.

Get a Golf if you want to pay a lot of money to be like everyone else...

Comes with everything but resale value.... but I agree, good value cars.

Yep... and potentially be another hijacking statistic.

Yours is in repars for the engine block right? Really think the 2012-2013 models had a problem. Did mine two years ago, car in repairs now after getting side swiped :|

Will go peep the Megane this weekend maybe. Wanna get my ducks in a row for when the car is back.

I'm sure by and large the very same will apply to the 220d except with less practicality.

Just need to go test drive one but that was my thinking. Second hand ones seem barebones compared to the stuff I have in my 86 at the moment. Heated seats :love:

320D F30, just get it . It is perfect daily driver.

Sport-line model has seats with more adjustment, worth it to look for that model.

Try and get one with pro-nav(very hard to fine) and xenon lights at-least.

If want it to go faster just have the ecu flashed, easy 165kw and 470nm after a flash. It can get near 500nm range with stage 2.

with a comment like this OP should put you on ignore regarding motoring advice.
Sorry, you're right.

Get the Golf if you want to spend a lot of money on a car, and then still spend more to get it kitted it out to the same spec as the Megane, which costs less in the first place...

Too big for me. 220d makes a little more sense as it isn't that much bigger than the 86.

It is only 17cm longer :P

Just looked up the specs.

With a 220D you just need make sure get all right extra's, stuff like dual zone cimate control is not standard.

Do you have a small garage or are you unable to drive or something?

Because I don’t see how the minor difference in size makes a real world difference.

They all have PDC if that’s a problem.

Now if you just said looks or two door that would make a lot more sense. :)

Personal preference. Don’t like humongous cars which I feel the 320 is. Coupes are also my preference, thus my small 86 coupe
